‘The Munsters’ reboot in the works at NBC

NBC is trying to reboot one of the most popular, and bizarre, 1960s sitcoms with the help of some serious star power. “The Munsters,” which originally aired on CBS, is reportedly coming back with the help of “Odd Mom Out” creator Jill Kargman and NBC late-night host Seth Meyers.

According to Deadline, the classic sitcom, which featured a loving family that happened to all be monsters, will undergo a few significant changes in order to update it for the modern day. Most notably, their famous address, 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Mockingbird Heights, will be ditched for the more familiar setting of Brooklyn, New York. The show will reportedly see the cavalcade of horrors navigating the city trying to fit in with the ever-growing hipster crowd. Kargman will write the script and executive produce it with Meyers production company for Universal TV.

As TheWrap notes, this isn’t the first time that NBC has taken a stab at rebooting “The Munsters.” The network paid a hefty price of around $10 million to produce a pilot for “Mockingbird Lane” that ended up running as a Halloween special in 2012. The reboot had many big names behind it, including writer Bryan Fuller, director Bryan Singer, actor/comedian Eddie Izzard, Jerry O’Connell, Portia de Rossi and Charity Wakefield.

Ultimately, NBC passed on bringing the reboot to series.

A previous reboot, titled “The Munsters Today,” ran in syndication from 1988 to 1991.

“We just decided that it didn’t hold together well enough to yield a series,” NBC Chief Bob Greenblatt said at the time. “It looked beautiful and original and creative, but it just all ultimately didn’t come together…, it just didn’t ultimately creatively all work.”

John Boyega and Amber Riley lead nominations at The Stage Debut Awards

You might know them best from Glee and Star Wars – but it’s Amber Riley and John Boyega’s performances on the London stage which have bagged them nominations for a new industry award.

Both are up for the Joe Allen Best West End Debut prize at the inaugural The Stage Debut Awards.

It recognises a debut performance in the West End, with the winner decided by a public vote.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s Anthony Boyle is also nominated.

‘Great optimism’

The other nominees for the prize are:

  • Andy Karl, Groundhog Day
  • Audra McDonald, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill
  • Andrew Polec, Bat Out of Hell
  • Imogen Poots, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
  • Charlie Stemp, Half a Sixpence

“It’s great to see such a range of talented theatre makers and gives cause for great optimism about the future of theatre in the UK,” said The Stage’s associate editor, Lyn Gardner.

Mark Shenton, The Stage’s associate editor and one of the judges, said: “While the other categories in The Stage Debut Awards only recognise complete newcomers, the Joe Allen Best West End Debut Award is a chance to celebrate talent making their mark in the West End for the first time.

“We have a really great shortlist that ranges from genuine newcomers like Anthony Boyle, who made his professional debut in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, to Audra McDonald, a legend on Broadway making her belated West End debut in Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill.”

‘Making my own way’

Boyega made his West End debut as the lead in Woyzeck, with Riley appearing as Effie White in Dreamgirls.

Switching space for the Cold War, Boyega received largely positive reviews for his performance in the modern adaptation of George Buchner’s unfinished play set in 1980s Berlin.

Riley took on the role played by Jennifer Hudson in the 2006 Dreamgirls film – having previously performed one of its songs, And I am Telling You I’m Not Going, in the first series of Glee.

After collecting the award for best actress in a musical in April, Riley told The Stage it felt “exceptional” to be in a show where the three leads were black women.

She said: “I think it’s incredible. In theatre, I feel like you want to see people that look like you and know that you can do that.

“I’m not necessarily the standard of what the industry may feel is beautiful or could be a star, but I’m doing it anyway because I’m making my own way.”

The awards ceremony will take place in London on 17 September

‘Rude’ Waitress Keeps Insulting Family When They Order, Then They Post The Video On Facebook

In August 2015, a family from Idaho was visiting Chicago and decided to grab a bite to eat at a local retro-themed diner. But their waitress, Cherry, wasn’t so jazzed to be serving them.

As the family tried to place their order, Cherry proceeded to unleash a “verbal beatdown.” She kept firing out cutting quips like, “If you want good service, you go somewhere else.”

After the family posted the video to Facebook, it quickly went viral with over 4 million views. But it wasn’t long before the truth about this so-called “nasty” server came out.

You see, at Ed Debevic’s the staff is purposefully rude to its customers. In fact, it’s all part of the experience!

Cherry is actually a former actress whose real name is Kryssie Ridolfi, and she’s been working at the diner for over 10 years. She said the family was totally in on the joke, and enjoyed her extreme level of snark.

Since the video went viral, Kryssie a.k.a Cherry has gotten a ton of attention, and people have been flocking to Ed Debevic’s to take photos and get a dose of her attitude.

Please enjoy this truly unexpected restaurant moment, and SHARE it with your friends on Facebook!

I Made A ‘Lord Of The Rings’ Monopoly Board

A few months back, I saw a “Lord of the Rings” Monopoly board game on Ebay and thought: “We wants it, we needs it!” (in Gollum’s voice). But then I took a closer look and saw that there is a parking lot in Middle-Earth. The board game was also expensive and the shipment would cost me double the price of the product. But mostly – that parking lot bothered me. And the policeman. So I decided to make my version of the board game.

I found an old wooden box in the basement, wrote down the dimensions of the box and started thinking of ideas for the design of the board. Since I’m a big fan of the “Lord of the Rings”, I wanted to be immersed in the story. So, instead of a parking lot, I put Weathertop. Instead of the policeman, I put Shelob… You get where I’m going with this. The board design was made with Adobe Illustrator, then printed and coated. In order to avoid a mess, I created wooden partitions inside the box – so the money, cards, dices, houses and metal figures wouldn’t mix.

When I was finished I was happy and proud! I made something unique and something that I love. It took me two weeks to do it properly, but I think it was worth it. This is my precious.
