10 Best Anti-Aging Foods to Eat Every Day

The greatest desire of every woman is to stay young and beautiful as long as possible. We usually try various methods in order to prevent the aging process in our body. Though, our efforts are not always successful. It is necessary to remember that certain things can help you to add years to your life. Firstly, you should lead a healthy lifestyle. For this you need to do regular physical exercises and include wholesome foods into your diet. If you want to stay young and avoid numerous age-related diseases, I recommend you to consume the following anti-aging foods every day. They are extremely beneficial for your health!

1. Fish
The conducted researches have shown that those people who eat a lot of fish almost never suffer from heart disease. For example, the native Inuits of Alaska are not familiar with this health issue because they regularly consume a big amount of fish. This food is known to be rich in omega-3 fats that will stabilize your heart rhythms and protect you against cholesterol buildup in arteries.

2. Olive Oil
Due to the fact that olive oil is high in monounsaturated fats it is one of those foods that are efficient in fighting cancer and heart disease. Everybody knows that people who live in Greece constantly use olive oil for cooking. Scientists’ studies have proven that the consumption of this oil lowers rates of heart diseases among the citizens of this country. By adding olive oil to your dishes you will supply your body with antioxidants and polyphenols which you need to resist different age-related diseases.

3. Chocolate
Cocoa is the main ingredient of chocolate. It has a high concentration of flavanols that are very good for blood vessels. When your blood vessels function well, you’re able to reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, dementia and kidney disease. That’s why you can easily enjoy the sweet taste of your favorite chocolate. Just make sure you control your portions, or this dessert will be harmful to your health. Besides chocolate bars, there is a wide range of beverages made of cocoa. By drinking them you’ll have a chance to prevent heart disease.

4. Yogurt
Some years ago Georgia was one of the countries that had the biggest number of centenarians in the world. Yogurt was claimed to be the main secret of their long lives. This dairy product is frequently used in most diets that are so popular nowadays. Perhaps you’ve never heard before but yogurt may slow the aging process. Being full of calcium, this food is extremely effective in preventing osteoporosis. In addition, “good bacteria” that are found in yogurt will strengthen your immune system and improve your overall health.

5. Blueberries
Dietarians state that blueberries may have a fantastic impact on human body. If you include these delicious and wholesome berries into your daily menu you’ll be amazed with the results. According to scientific studies blueberries are considered to increase people’s coordination when they become old. Plus, this food contains compounds that can easily diminish oxidative damage and inflammation. These health problems can lead to deficits in memory and motor function when you are old. So, blueberries are a wonderful choice for healthy aging.

6. Nuts
If you really care about your health and beauty, I would advise you to add nuts to your eating plan. This food is an enormous source of unsaturated fats and it can affect your body in the same way as olive oil does. Recently it has been found out that people who eat nuts live a few years longer than those who refuse from this tasty snack. Such nutrients as vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, make nuts one of the healthiest foods. Today you can find different kinds of nuts that are also a perfect option for vegetarians.

7. Wine
The negative influence of alcohol on our health is undeniable. Some people even don’t guess that when consumed in moderate doses alcohol can be salubrious for them. It should be mentioned that wine is the most preferable alcoholic beverage all over the world. If you drink wine, you will not only enjoy its refined taste but you will protect yourself against numerous diseases as well. Those who drink red wine are less subjected to diabetes, memory loss and heart disease. What is more important, this beverage will slow the process of aging in your body.

8. Carrots
Carrot is another fantastic food that will certainly help you to look younger and you will supply your body with various vitamins and nutrients that are necessary to be healthy. This orange vegetable is a perfect source of alpha- and beta-carotene that are known to boost our immunity and even stave off cancer. Moreover, carrots may be effectively used to care for your skin because carotenoids protect it from UV damage. When summer comes, you should try to add carrots to your diet and don’t forget to apply sunscreen either.

9. Sunflower Seeds
First of all, I’d like to say that most of us give preference to these seeds when looking for yummy snacks. Do you know that this food is very good for your health? We can hardly find any other food that is more packed with vitamin E than sunflower seeds. We all need to consume this vitamin in order to enhance our immune system which becomes weak with age. Nevertheless you have all chances to roll back the years by eating your favorite sunflower seeds.

10. Prunes
Perhaps you are surprised to see prunes on this list, but it has been proven that this food can be even more efficient than fresh fruits when it comes to our health. One of the reasons why prunes are so useful to us is their capacity to remove harmful free radicals from the blood and improve our circulation. Being dried, prunes have a big quantity of good things that have positive effect on our body. As an alternative to prunes you can also eat raisins or figs.

Unfortunately, we can’t stop time and stay young forever. However, we have endless opportunities to add years to our life and to look amazing no matter how old we are. All the above foods will definitely help you to stay healthy and by eating them you’ll be able to avoid various age-related diseases. What methods do you use to prevent the negative effects of aging? Do you eat any other anti-aging foods? What are they?

Anti-inflammatory drug ‘cuts heart attack risk’

Anti-inflammatory drugs could cut the risk of heart attacks and strokes, a study of 10,000 patients suggests.

A trial of the drug canakinumab could represent the biggest breakthrough in treatment since the advent of statins to lower cholesterol, its authors say.

The study reported a 15% reduction in the risk of a repeat heart attack among patients – but others questioned the drug’s efficacy, side-effects and cost.

Recipients of the drug had an increased risk of potentially fatal infections.

However, the British Heart Foundation (BHF) said the “exciting and long-awaited trial” could still help save lives.

Arthritis drug

Heart attack patients are routinely given cholesterol-lowering statins and blood-thinning drugs to help reduce the risk of repeat attacks.

In this study, 10,000 patients who had previously had a heart attack were treated with the anti-inflammatory drug once every three months.

The trial, held in almost 40 countries, monitored the individuals for up to four years.

It found what researchers said were reductions in risk “above and beyond” those seen in patients who only took statins.

However, it also found a “significantly higher incidence” of potentially fatal infection and sepsis among those treated with the drug, according to the study.

The results were presented at the European Society of Cardiology meeting, held in Barcelona, Spain.

Canakinumab was initially developed by pharmaceutical firm Novartis – which paid for the trial – to treat rheumatoid arthritis.

A heart attack is a serious medical emergency in which the supply of blood to the heart is suddenly blocked.

Experts have previously spoken about its possible link with inflammation of certain blood vessels. However, authors say such a link has never been proven before in humans.

The study’s lead author Dr Paul Ridker, of Brigham and Women’s Hospital, part of Harvard Medical School, said the study represented “a milestone in a long journey”.

“For the first time, we’ve been able to definitively show that lowering inflammation independent of cholesterol reduces cardiovascular risk,” he said.

“This has far-reaching implications.”

Dr Ridker continued: “In my lifetime, I’ve gotten to see three broad eras of preventative cardiology.

“In the first, we recognised the importance of diet, exercise and smoking cessation. In the second, we saw the tremendous value of lipid-lowering drugs such as statins. Now, we’re cracking the door open on the third era. This is very exciting.”

Dr Ridker said the findings also indicated “the possibility of slowing the progression of certain cancers”, but further research was required.

‘Safety trade-offs’

Dr Robert Harrington, chair of the Stanford University School of Medicine, sounded a note of caution in an editorial in the New England Journal of Medicine.

He said the effects of anti-inflammatories could be “modest”, and the absolute clinical benefit of canakinumab “cannot justify” its routine use “until we understand more about the efficacy and safety trade-offs, and unless a price restructuring and formal cost-effectiveness evaluation supports it.”

Others, though, say the treatment could help those at risk of repeat heart attacks for whom statins are not enough.

Prof Jeremy Pearson, associate medical director at the BHF, said: “The findings suggest that existing anti-inflammatory drugs, such as canakinumab, could be given along with cholesterol-lowering drugs to treat survivors and further reduce their risk of another heart attack.”

Gary Gibbons, director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, said the findings provided “compelling evidence”.

He called for further research into the findings.

These 5 Foods Are “Anti-Inflammatory Powerhouses,” Says a Top Chef

“My relationship with food has always been a key component of my identity,” writes Seamus Mullen, an award-winning chef, restaurateur, and longtime sufferer of rheumatoid arthritis. Mullen essentially cured himself of this autoimmune disease after realizing the power of diet in improving a person’s overall health—an experience he chronicles in his new book, Real Food Heals.

“I realized that my poor health was directly linked to my carb- and sugar-driven diet,” he shares on Mindbodygreen. “Since then, not only have I avoided the emergency room—I’ve shocked doctors and everyone who knows me with my great health. At every checkup, the biomarkers of my disease are now nonexistent.” Below, read up on the foods he considers to have “truly turned [his] life around,” and why you should incorporate them into your diet:

Coconut:  “I use coconut constantly in my cooking in its various forms, from unsweetened desiccated coconut to coconut oil and coconut cream,” he shares. “Coconut oil is a great replacement for highly inflammatory cooking oils like canola and corn oil, which can damage cells, especially in those with autoimmune disease.”

Avocado. Now a staple in any healthy diet, avocados are “one of the healthiest foods we can eat, thanks to their high nutrient value. They’re also dense with good fats, fiber, and potassium, while low in carbs, cholesterol, and sodium.”

Asparagus:  This spring vegetable is a solid source of fiber, folate, vitamin A and C, and prebiotics, which “promote the growth of beneficial microorganisms in the intestines,” he writes. It’s “a rich source of glutathione, a detoxifying compound that helps break down carcinogens and free radicals, which helps fight against cancer and inflammation.”

Eggs: Despite some skepticism in the health community, Mullen believes that “eggs are a miracle food. … The protein and good fats in eggs make them a filling and satisfying way to get your daily zinc; iron; and vitamins A, D, E, and K.”

Oily fish: Filled with omega-3 fatty acids, “Oily fish like anchovies, sardines, and mackerel … are a powerhouse,” he writes. They reportedly help lower blood pressure, prevent fat buildup in the arteries, and reduce joint pain.

US Justice Department shifts tack after privacy concerns, now seeks content data from anti-Trump site

The US Department of Justice has amended its request for information on visitors to an anti-Trump websiteANDREW CABALLERO-REYNOLDS/AFP/Getty Images
Days after requesting details of 1.3m visitors of a website used to organise protests during Donald Trump’s inauguration as US President, the Department of Justice has amended its demand, saying it wasn’t aware that the information it sought was “so broad”.

In a recent court filing, US Attorney Channing Phillips wrote, the “lawful warrant” issued by the government was solely designed to track people who used disruptj20.org to coordinate and organise a “premeditated riot” during Trump’s inauguration ceremony.

He further stressed that the government wasn’t targeting the First Amendment rights of political dissidents who casually visited the site, but was only looking for the select group involved in “the criminal act”.

Phillips noted that the government never needed “over-broad” information for the criminal investigation, but had no other way to know how much information the site’s host, DreamHost, had in store.

So, they went ahead with the warrant and requested all information relating to the website, including details of its owners and IP logs of millions of visitors.

The reply brief read, “The government has no interest in records relating to the 1.3 million IP addresses that are mentioned in DreamHost’s numerous press releases and Opposition brief.”

It also noted the facts presented by Dreamhost “were unknown to the government at the time it applied for and obtained the warrant”. As a result, it “could not exclude from the scope of the warrant what it did not know existed”.

That said, in an attempt to address privacy concerns flagged by Dreamhost, the department has now specified its request for information with a modified version of the warrant – one which clearly elucidates what the government needs to continue its investigation.

According to the amended request, DreamHost has to provide the website’s “content and transactional information” for the time period from 1 July, 2016 to 20 January, 2017.

This includes public statements made by the organisers of DisruptJ20, but excludes “contents of unpublished draft publications (including images and their metadata), HTTP requests, and error logs”.

Quelling fears of constitutional violations, the Department of Justice reassured that any information that goes beyond the scope of the modified warrant will be sealed away and not revisited without further notice from the court.

However, it is still unclear if the government organisation plans to use alternative methods of obtaining information about the visitors of the protest website.

Homemade Anti-Itch Spray

Oh summer… how I love thee. With the fresh peaches for cobbler, long days for family activities, abundance of fresh veggies at the farmers market and the extra time with family, summer is almost perfect…

Except for the mosquitos… or the occasional poison ivy… or itchy peeling sunburn.

It seems that itchy skin is an inevitable part of summer in some way or another.

Of course, homemade bug spray helps ward off most of the mosquitos, and homemade sunscreenhelps avoid the sunburn in the first place, but it seems that at some point, someone forgets one or the other and ends up with itchy skin.

I always seem to be a magnet for mosquitos, so even just a couple minutes of cutting the boys’ hair outside or taking out the trash is usually enough to leave me with a few bites.

The solution?

Homemade Anti-itch Spray

This anti-itch spray contains a mixture of potent natural remedies that helps eliminate itch immediately. I’ve tried it on mosquito bites, poison ivy, sunburn, chiggers,  and even stinging nettle burns and good results.

The essential oils can be left out for use on pregnant women or children, but I’d still recommend checking with a doctor before using if pregnant or if you have a medical condition.

The secret ingredient is menthol crystals. I use these potent natural crystals in my pain relief lotion bars and my soothing shower melts for cold relief. Menthol is naturally cooling and soothing and is often used in salves, balms, mouthwashes, liniments, lozenges and other remedies.

I make this in a 4 ounce spray bottle, but you could easily double the recipe or cut in half to fit your container size.

Anti-Itch Spray Ingredients

1/4 cup natural witch hazel extract
1 teaspoon natural salt
1/2 teaspoon menthol crystals- approximately 1-2 crystals (available at Mountain Rose Herbs or Amazon)
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
1 tablespoon organic apple cider vinegar (optional- can use additional aloe)
Optional: 5 drops of lavender essential oil
Optional: 5 drops calendula essential oil
Anti-Itch Spray Instructions

Carefully heat the witch hazel extract in a small saucepan until warm to the touch (about 130 degrees). This is to melt the menthol crystals and salt, which melt at about 115 degrees F.
Add the salt and stir until dissolved.
Using tweezers or gloves, add the menthol crystals to the witch hazel and stir until dissolved. Avoid touching menthol with your hands, as it can sting eyes or other sensitive areas if you touch them after.
When menthol is dissolved, add the aloe vera gel, apple cider vinegar and essential oils (if using) and carefully transfer to a spray bottle for use.
This will store for months at room temperature, but I prefer to keep in the refrigerator for extra cooling of itchy skin. This is one remedy I like to keep on hand, especially in the summer.

Homemade Anti-Itch Cream

With kids, skin irritations are a fact of life… especially during the summer when things like mosquito bites, poison ivy and other insect bites can cause skin problems.

I’ve also been hoping to eventually expose my kids to chicken pox (though I’m having trouble doing this as no one seems to get it anymore!) so I wanted to have a natural remedy for this on hand.

Even my skin occasionally gets irritated or itchy if I accidentally eat certain grains or food additives…

This homemade natural anti-itch cream is a wonderful remedy for skin irritations and itching. It contains all natural ingredients and can be mixed as needed for a soothing and effective remedy.

Anti-Itch Cream Ingredients:

1 teaspoon non-nano zinc oxide powder (optional)
1 teaspoon fine sea salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons bentonite clay
1 tablespoon (approx) witch hazel (longer shelf life) or water (use within a week)
10 drops peppermint essential oil (optional-cooling)
What to Do:

Mix zinc oxide, sea salt, baking soda, and bentonite clay in a small bowl or jar. Slowly add witch hazel, stirring constantly, until it reaches a creamy consistency. Add essential oil if using.
Store in air tight jar and use within two weeks (one week if using water in place of witch hazel).
Long Lasting Option:

If you’d prefer not to have to make a small amount that must be used within two weeks, you can make a larger batch by mixing double or triple quantities of the dry ingredients and adding to the wet ingredients as needed for use.

I store the pre-mixed powder in an empty spice container (red jar above) and shake out into a small bowl and mix with witch hazel when I need to use it.

Refugee rescue ship sails to aid of anti-migrant activists stranded in Med

German NGO says its rescue vessel is sailing to help a group of far-right activists after their ship got into trouble off the coast of Libya

An NGO vessel that has saved the lives of hundreds of migrants in the Mediterranean is sailing to the rescue of a group of far-right anti-immigration activists whose ship is in difficulties off the coast of Libya.

The German NGO Sea Eye said one of its search and rescue boats was on its way to the C-Star, manned by members of the extremist Generation Identity group, which sent a distress signal after an engine failure left it unable to manoeuvre.

Michael Busch Heuer, the founder of the Regensburg-based aid organisation, which operates two rescue vessels active in the Mediterranean since early 2016, said it was the duty of anyone at sea “to help those in distress, irrespective of their origin, colour, religion or beliefs”.

Sea Eye said in a statement on its Facebook page that it had been informed on Friday morning by Operation Sophia, the joint EU naval operation deterring migrant smugglers and human traffickers in the Mediterranean, that the 40-metre (130ft) C-Star was in difficulty.

“Since our vessel the Sea Eye is closest to the C-Star, we were instructed by the maritime rescue coordination centre in Rome, the emergency service for the western Mediterranean, to go to its aid,” the NGO said.

Generation Identity’s self-styled “Defend Europe” mission played down the incident, calling it a “minor technical problem” that meant the vessel was “not under command”.

Defend Europe chartered the C-Star in Djibouti last month after raising €75,000 (£67,000) through crowdfunding. After originally promising to actively block migrant boats, it now says it is “monitoring” rescues in the Mediterranean.

The group – part of a five-year-old movement of young, far-right activists from France, Germany, Austria, Italy and the UK who are opposed to Islam and immigration – accuses NGOs that have rescued about one third of the nearly 100,000 people saved in the Mediterranean this year of illegally working with people smugglers to bring migrants to Europe.

Katie Hopkins, the MailOnline columnist, met members of the group in Catania, Sicily, tweeting: “Good to meet Team C-Star @DefendEuropeID. Young people, eight nations, crowdfunded, shining a light on NGO people traffickers in Med.”

But the Defend Europe venture has not been an unmitigated success. First, the C-Star was held up for a week in the Suez canal by Egyptian authorities looking for weapons. Then some of its Sri Lankan crew jumped ship when it docked in the Cypriot port of Famagusta last month; several reportedly asked for asylum. The ship’s crew and owner, Sven Tomas Egerstrom, were accused in court of preparing and circulating false documents but later released.

After leaving Cyprus on 1 August and being advised not to dock in Greece or Sicilyfor fear of protests, the vessel, which flies the Mongolian flag, was prevented by Tunisian fishermen from putting into the port of Zarzis for supplies.

“If they come here, we’ll block the refuelling channel,” said Chamseddine Bourassine, a local fishermen’s leader. “It is the least we can do given what is happening out in the Mediterranean. Muslims and Africans are dying.”

The Tunisian Forum for Economic and Social Rights, a local NGO, said it would oppose any attempt by the C-Star to dock and take on fresh supplies of fuel, food and water in a Tunisian port. It called on the government “not to cooperate with its racist and dangerous crew”.
