Yes, I want to start with the worst part about spring cleaning. I’m sure many of you would agree that cleaning mini blinds is a great pain. However, I’ve learned a small tip that makes it really easier. Just take your mini blinds down and wash them in the bath. They’ll be cleaner in no time!

2. Wash your walls
If you used to wash your walls by hand, this spring try washing them with a mop instead. This will save you a lot of time, I promise! Now that I know this little trick, washing my walls isn’t a big problem anymore. Give it a try and you will never think of washing the walls as a great pain.

3. Clean your oven
I don’t understand those people who clean their oven by hand when they have a self-cleaning one. A self-cleaning oven works amazingly and is so easy to operate. If you have a self-cleaning oven, just turn it on and it will do its thing. While it’s cleaning, the oven gets extremely hot and there can be a terrible smell, but you can go outdoors to avoid the smell, or do another chore to complete your spring cleaning faster.

4. Give your carpets to the professionals
If you have carpets, I suggest you to hire them done. It’s better and easier. It’s also incredibly time-saving. The professional knows what they’re doing and they can be more experienced at stain removal than you are. If you can afford, give your carpets to the professionals.

5. Purchase a ceiling fan cleaner
Purchase a ceiling fan cleaner so that you don’t have to climb up and take it all apart. Indeed, there’s a great device that you can purchase that cleans the ceiling fan. It’s like a duster but created to fit over every blade. While you still should clean the globes, it helps save you immense amounts of time and headache.

6. Clean your curtains
If you have trouble cleaning your curtains, I recommend doing all of your curtains at once. Take the day, take your curtains down and wash them. After washing, hang your curtains back up. Don’t forget to check the instructions and learn how to properly launder them. Maybe your curtains are dry clean only ones. Follow the instructions on the label and you won’t have any problems.

7. Don’t do it alone
If you share a home or if you have a big family, don’t do your spring cleaning alone, it’s just too much for one person. Have everybody muck in and help and you’ll get it done quicker and you will even have time for a spring picnic or family BBQ.

6 Things I Do Now to Get Ready for Thanksgiving

I can’t believe that we’ll celebrate Thanksgiving Day just in a few weeks. This is a special holiday for me when I can express gratitude for all my blessings, spend an unforgettable time with my family and enjoy savory aroma of a roast turkey and other festive dishes. This year I’m going to host a Thanksgiving dinner at my home.

On the one hand, this expectation makes me very happy since I’ll have a wonderful opportunity to meet my parents whom I haven’t seen for three months. On the other hand, the preparation to the holiday induces much stress and worry as I have to do plenty of things for my dinner to be a great success. That’s why I should plan every detail of my Thanksgiving celebration in advance and it’s high time to start preparing right now. Here are a few things I do now to get ready for the perfect Thanksgiving feast without stress and anxiety.

1. Send invitation cards
While I can call each member of my family any moment and invite them to the long-awaited party just in several minutes, I think that by sending individual invitation cards to my guests I will add more solemnity to the holiday. Nowadays we can find a big choice of various cards in every supermarket. If you are very busy, it would be a nice idea to buy them in order to save your time. Moreover, there are lots of online services that offer special invitations for your guests. Personally I want to surprise my family this year. So, I will make unique cards with my daughter. This way we’ll have fun and prepare to the festivity at the same time.

2. Plan my menu
Undoubtedly, a menu is one of the most significant aspects of every party. Therefore, I need to create the one that will impress my guests. I have already started to browse different cookbooks and websites in the search of interesting and unusual recipes. Surely, the roast turkey will be the main attraction of my festive table. I will also cook vegetable side dishes like mashed potatoes, green beans, gravy and a couple of light salads to add more diversity to the menu.

I can’t imagine Thanksgiving without desserts. At this time we have a variety of seasonal fruits and vegetables that can be used to make numerous pies and biscuits. Now, when I have a clear vision of the foods to cook for the upcoming holiday, I can write down the menu and all the recipes needed.

My Thanksgiving menu is ready and it’s time to make a grocery list of the ingredients I should buy in advance. Actually I always put down all the foods necessary for cooking holiday dishes and then I tick off those that can be purchased ahead of time. For example, it’s okay to buy boxed, canned and frozen goods right now. Don’t forget about the turkey as well. If you decide to purchase the foods two days before the holiday, you’ll have to wait in long queues, the prices will be much higher and you might not find certain items. First of all I’ve cleaned out my fridge and pantry so that I have enough storage for the groceries I will buy in advance. When you go shopping, make sure you’ve put on your grocery list staples such as napkins and paper towels.

4. Prepare decorations
Decorations are an integral part of every holiday and Thanksgiving is no exception. Things like pilgrims, cornucopias, pumpkins, turkeys and Native American symbols are the best choices that will help me to create a delightful and cheerful atmosphere in my home. Thanksgiving Day is around the corner and it’s a great time to go shopping for these decorations without any delay. In addition, some natural materials such as autumn leaves and pinecones are going to be an excellent decoration for my house.

Next week I will start working on various Thanksgiving crafts, involving my daughter and nephew into this pleasurable activity. Colorful centerpieces, candles, napkin rings and place cards are the basic elements I traditionally use to enrich the overall look of my table.

7. Select pressed powder

One of the best tricks you can use to make your home smell good is to opt for fabric softener sheets. Just tuck them into different places in your house to release their fragrance. Using a nice smelling laundry detergent is a tip that goes a long way. There are a couple of families that I like to visit since I can always smell their fantastic laundry detergent from outside their house while I’m waiting for them to open the door. Fresh flowers are one of the best ways to keep your house smelling fresh and clean. You can place a vase with your favorite flowers in your bedroom, living room or kitchen. There’s no need to buy those air fresheners. Buying flowers every day can ruin your budget, though. With spring officially here, it is time to get rid of that winter overindulgence. Just like your house needs a spring clean, your body craves the same. Let’s not forget that summer is coming and you will not get ready for the bikini season in two days. 1. Check out your spring meal plan
Leave spicy and fatty foods for cold winter days and welcome organic food instead. In spring, your immune system is still weak, so including vitamin C rich foods in your daily diet is a must. Consider eating organic cucumbers, carrots, cherries, oranges, tomatoes, pineapple and turnips. It is best to eat them raw to get the most micronutrients.

Beets, garlic, string beans, apples, zucchini, celery, sea vegetables, and green onions are the foods that help cleanse your liver, and prevent and remove toxins from your body. Make sure you buy organic. Otherwise, you will do more harm than good.

2. Switch to herbal teas
Herbals teas are not the most delicious drinks to have for breakfast, but they are much healthier than coffee and black, and even green teas. Start your day with a cup of herbal tea like mint, ginger or chamomile to spring clean your overall body, drop weight and boost your energy level.

Lemon water is another option. Can’t wake up without coffee? Look for the organic version to increase your antioxidant intake and avoid toxins. When you drink herbal teas, use raw honey instead of sugar. When it comes to coffee, brown sugar is a smart substitute.

Puretta promises to clean the poop particles from your toothbrush

Where do you store your toothbrush? Mine is often stored in an old, toothpaste-stained salsa jar (label removed) next to a mug of hydrogen peroxide, where I leave my retainer to soak. These are precariously placed in the top-left corner of my pedestal sink, a decidedly bad place to store anything of importance.

But I keep my toothbrush on the farthest left ledge of the tiny sink because I’m driven by fear — fear of poop particles and all other manner of germ accumulation that happens in the only bathroom of a 450-square-foot apartment. If you’re as anxious as I am about hygiene, the Kickstarter for Puretta might ease your concerns.

Puretta is a wall attachment that is a toothbrush holder and a toothpaste and floss dispenser, and it claims to sterilize toothbrushes with UV light. It also has a solar panel to charge — so hopefully your bathroom gets a lot of light.

The sterilization is performed with a 253.7 nm UV light (also known as a “germicidal light”). These lights can be commonly found in laboratories as part of a water sterilization sequence, according to Novus Light Technologies Today. They work to inactivate the DNA of microorganisms like bacteria and viruses, and the lamps work most effectively from light ranges 250 nm to 280 nm.

In June 2015, the American Society for Microbiology released a study finding that at least 60 percent of toothbrushes from participants in communal bathrooms were contaminated with fecal coliforms. Yum. To make the shitcake sweeter, there’s an 80 percent likelihood that the fecal coliforms did not belong to the toothbrush owner.

I haven’t tested Puretta, but if it does come equipped with a properly functioning 253.7 nm UV light, it should actually sterilize the toothbrushes, which is all I give a crap about. The light is supposed to last for five years and is replaceable, although some bathrooms — like my dingy one — may be far too dark to charge the solar-powered Puretta.

My bathroom is a glorified dungeon (no offense to dungeons), and would not offer charge to a solar powered device.
The campaign launched on August 15th, is already 300 percent funded at time of writing, and almost all discounted backing perks have been claimed. Puretta expects to ship in October 2017, but did not specify retail pricing. Judging from early bird pledges, you can expect it to hit shelves for around $60 to $75, if the company delivers. Puretta appears to be the first product from Puretta Technology, which doesn’t have any history of shipping a product, so take your usual precautions before backing the project.
