If Your Child Is Sitting Like This, Here’s Why You Need to Stop Them Now

My daughter’s just over a year old, so there’s really not much she’s doing “wrong” yet. (Trust me, like all of us, she’ll get there.) If she smacks our family pet, it’s less hostility and more that she doesn’t have full control of her arms. If she throws her food, it’s not an act of insubordination but just her method of communicating that she’s done eating. So, when a family member alerted me to something my child was doing that she needed to stop at once, I was taken aback. Especially because, at that particular moment, she wasn’t stealing her playmate’s toys or eating an expensive coaster as she’s sometimes known to do. She was just sitting there.

Turns out, the way she was sitting — with each leg splayed at her side, knees in front and feet behind, to form a “W” shape — was all kinds of bad.

According to a vast majority of physical therapists, there are several key reasons why:

W-sitting limits core strength because it gives kids a wider base of support. Because they don’t have to engage their abdominal or back muscles in this position, kids often prefer it to more challenging, tiring positions, like with legs in front, at their sides, or crisscrossed.
W-sitting causes muscle tightness, particularly in the legs and hips but also knees and ankles.
W-sitting aggravates neurological issues such as low muscle tone, which means when kids aren’t actively using their muscles, those muscles are floppier and softer and have a harder time holding their bodies upright.
What this all means, most therapists agree, is that prolonged W-sitting throughout childhood can lead to a delayed development in gross motor skills like coordination and balance. For those parents hoping to raise a star athlete, this position’s effect on postural muscles can also be cause for concern.

This is a modal window.

The media could not be loaded, either because the server or network failed or because the format is not supported.

Why do some kids sit like this? It’s by far the steadiest way for children of all ages to sit, and aside from that innate tendency to achieve the most stability, it’s also been attributed to time spent in infant carrier devices, like swings, bouncy seats, and car seats.

Seeing as my daughter had graduated from infancy, I was immediately concerned that the damage was already done. I had tried my best to limit her time in her baby swing and the oversize, overpriced ExerSaucer that I had bought under the assumption it was actually good for a baby’s development, but here she was, W-sitting at every turn. I had never noticed it until now.

What can be done? Well, the somewhat alarmist recommendation is to get them to stop doing it immediately — that, whenever you see your child W-sitting, you either physically move their legs into a suitable position (if they’re too young to understand) or tell them to do so.

So, with a watchful eye, I adjusted her legs every time she sat incorrectly, and my husband and I instructed our child’s caretakers to do the same. Occasionally I’d correct her, and it’d be fine, but plenty of times, adjusting one of her legs would make her cry and most times, doing so annoyed her to the point that she was no longer interested in sitting and scooted off to go do something else.

She wasn’t the only one getting fed up, and it had only been a week. I dug a little deeper and found that a few pediatric occupational therapists out there don’t view this seated position as a problem necessarily. There’s not much evidence that shows causation. That is, yes, children who W-sit often have orthopedic issues and muscle tightness. But W-sitting hasn’t been proven to be the cause of those issues, which makes one wonder: could tight hamstrings and hip dysplasia lead to W-sitting, not the other way around?

One such unconvinced therapist, Rachel Coley, happens to be the mother to a W-sitter and maintains it’s perfectly normal for kids to sit this way.

She notes that it’s a simple sign of flexibility and aids in fine motor control because you need to assume the most stable seated position possible when engaging in tasks that require “coordinated, controlled movements of the hands and fingers.” Coley also noted that, for babies in particular, W-sitting provides a convenient, “natural transition” from crawling or kneeling to sitting.

However, based on how strongly most certified therapists feel about W-sitting, I’m not taking any chances. I’m going to keep my eye on it, and I’ll encourage other parents who were unaware of this issue to do the same, especially if they have older kids showing some of the negative side effects. But, if my child is having the time of her life smacking two wooden blocks together, I’m not going to spoil the fun if she happens to be W-sitting.

7 Life Questions to Ask Yourself Today

In today’s modern world, many of us stick to the high tempo and miss many important for self-development things. But sometimes we thirst for the moment to stop and ask yourself several life questions. I’m sure there are certain questions which can help you improve yourself and know yourself better. When reflecting on your position, behavior and deeds, you can reach a new level of human development scale. Take a look at these questions and maybe they will change your life for the better.

1. What do you want to change in this world?
Almost everyone is able to change the world. Even small deeds and actions can contribute to making changes in this world. The main point is to have a frank desire. Nowadays we are free to change the world by volunteering or donating. Plus, you can create a music that’s proved to change people and their inner opinions. The best idea to change the world for the better is to start from yourself and your own world view. When we think of changing the world, it indicates that we’ve become stronger and more intelligent.

2. What are your life values?
Our values are the core element of the life. People who have no values are doomed to run around and chase unnecessary things. Families and life experiences endowed us with appropriate values and we have to find time to write them down and realize what is the most important for you. You have to set priorities whether to spend more time with family and friends or make a successful career. If your heart needs love, then try to become a good wife or a girlfriend to your man.

3. What do you like to do?
This question is really important because often we choose jobs that we don’t enjoy doing. We are often pressed by parents, colleagues and bosses to make a decision we don’t support. Even if you have a well-paid job, don’t be afraid to quit it. Do what you really love and you will feel much happier.

4. How do you imagine your life 5 years from now?
Find time and imagine your life 5 years from now. It can be easier to create a scheme including goals and mini-goals as a constituent part of your plan. If you want to reach them faster, then pay attention to concrete things and try not to build castles in the sky. Don’t be a lazybones and start accomplishing the list of goals and dreams you want to come true. If you follow this chain of actions, you will definitely succeed.

5. Is there a balance between want and should?
There are many important things we all should do in life, such as finishing the college degree, making money and starting a family. It often happens that our wants do not coincide with our shoulds and we end up feeling miserable. But it’s easy to turn your want into should. Your wants should come true and become an indispensable part of your everyday life. Try to draw the line between things you want and what you should do. You will certainly succeed and keep a healthy life balance.

6. What are your biggest fears?
Modern world often awards us with big or small fears. The key weapon to fight fears is to accept and face them. The most challenging thing is to win yourself. Nowadays it is normal to have fears and it doesn’t mean you are weak. Just be yourself and find a way to cope with your fears.

7. What if I die right now?
Don’t waste your energy and nerves mulling over small troubles and problems. If you were dying right now, what would be the most important to you? Your family and friends, or career and money? Stop worrying about money and other less important things, because life is too short. You may ask yourself if it’s a big problem that you’ve missed a bus or you’re late for work today.

I like asking life questions that always make me think and reflect. When you are having a cup of tea, try to ask yourself profound questions. This will help you to live a happier life. Do you find asking these questions necessary?

10 Dos and Don’ts of Wearing Red Lipstick

Lipstick is an essential part of almost every woman’s daily makeup routine. However, many women shy away from the red tones they find in the cosmetic aisle. Fortunately, you can pull off those brave shades with a little lipstick know-how. Here are ten dos and don’ts of wearing red lipstick:

1. Wear darker foundation
If you’re going to go bold with your lip color, you’ve got to have a complementary backdrop for your face. For those with lighter skin tones, it’s a good idea to choose foundations that will provide darker, olive bases. Red lips can be too much of a contrast against pale skin. The darker your lips are, the darker your foundation should be.

2. Don’t be afraid to blend different colors
Do you like the look of red lipstick, but think it might be too loud for you? There’s an easy solution: customize your shade. Simply take a lighter hue like coral or mauve and blend it with that rose or burgundy you’ve been eyeing. The result will be a more muted tone that nearly anyone will be comfortable wearing.

3. Use it for the right occasion
While everyone loves red, luscious lips, the look isn’t appropriate for every social situation. Some of the deeper shades can be a little jarring to people you run into at the gym or the kids’ soccer game. Likewise, you want everyone to be listening to your business proposal at that morning office meeting, not staring at your lips. Only paint your kisser red when you know you’re dealing with a fun, playful atmosphere, such as a night out with the girls. Then, you’ll be one step ahead in painting the town red!

4. Don’t overdo it
If you want to avoid all the lipstick smudges and stains, you can start by only applying a light coating to your lips. This is especially important for red lipstick since it’s easier to spot on teeth and collars. Rolling once or twice around your lips should be sufficient to achieve the desired effect. For even more control of your coverage, spread the lipstick using a lip brush. Just remember that a little dab will do you.

5. Use a lip liner
Using lipstick without a liner can lead to unnecessary smudging and streaking, especially when you’re wearing a red tone. To make sure that lipstick stays where it should, apply a matching liner around the rim of your lips. Once your lips are lined, fill in with your favorite tube of red. Now your lipstick will last just as long as your night out!

6. Don’t go dark if you have thin lips
If your lips are on the thinner side, you might want to avoid deeper tones of red. The thing is, dark colors will make your lips appear smaller. Pick a lighter hue for a plumper look.

7. Pair it with a bold outfit
When you’re putting on lipstick, it’s important to think about what you’ll be wearing. Your wardrobe choice should dictate the shade you select. You never want to pair dark red with a frilly, girly ensemble. A sweet shade of pink would be much more suited to that look. On the other hand, your little black dress or the latest runway fashion would each be the perfect pairing for that candy apple you’ve been meaning to try. You can wear red lipstick with conviction when you know you’ve got edgy clothes to match.

8. Don’t wear too much jewelry around your face
Red lips can act as much like accessories as diamond necklaces or pairs of hoop earrings. In fact, you should treat your lips like jewelry. Less is more. Opt for a small choker and some simple studs so your ruby reds will take center stage.

9. Find the right lipstick for you
Deciding on a lipstick is a very personal experience. You may know that you’d like one that’s red, but the rest of your decisions should be based on your personal taste. You should take the time to try out different brands, shades and finishes until you find the one that fits your unique style. From bright to deep and glossy to matte, you’re sure to find one that works for you.

10. Don’t be afraid
Wearing red lipstick is about more than just the color; it’s about the attitude. Be confident! Sometimes you just have to go for it. Red lipstick may not be for everyone, but you’ll never know if it’s right for you if you don’t try it out. Take the risk and you may be glad you did. After all, you can’t have a big payoff if you don’t gamble a little!

When it comes to makeup, every woman’s routine should start with a great tube of lipstick. Why not give red a shot? Whether you choose a tone that’s light or dark, everyone will be jealous of your daring look. Going red may make all your friends green with envy!

Amazon’s new smart goggles might make sense, if Alexa is everywhere

I’m not a fan of smart goggles, the awkward device Google tried to pawn off on us a few years ago for a high price tag. Google Glass failed because it didn’t really offer that much functionality, and Google didn’t actually convince anyone it made sense to wear glasses.

And yet news about Amazon making smart goggles caught my attention, because — while I never warmed up to the idea — I can see the benefit for anyone who already wears glasses anyway. This time around I could see myself jumping on board, with one major caveat.

Here it is: I would wear the glasses if Alexa could be found everywhere in other gadgets — like my garage door; my car; the adjustable desk in front of me; the autonomous mower in my yard; the phone I use; and my entire house, including everything from the dishwasher to the TV. Then it would be super easy to talk to my smart glasses rather than to my phone. My guess is that Amazon has the same kind of vision.

I can see how this might work. Sans phone, I’d wake up in the morning, put on my glasses as normal, and talk to Alexa. I might ask her to make a quick cup of coffee and open the blinds. Then, I’d ask her to read the news. I mean, isn’t this really what we want — access to Alexa with no phone or speaker around? (Although Alexa would know to activate a speaker when possible.) A HUD would show me what’s happening, or maybe Alexa would talk to me through the goggles, though I could see that getting annoying.

For this to make sense, it would absolutely have to work…and work all day.

I’m most interested in being able to use the glasses while driving. I won’t name any names here, but I tested Google Glass in a car once and it was pretty amazing to be able to see my speed in real time. What else could Alexa do for me? How about warning me when she notices I am not stopping for a car up ahead, or giving me directions based on the fact that she knows my schedule and knows where I need to be. She could even make sure the lights are on at home when I’m done for the day.

The “everywhere” concept is something I’ve mentioned before. Prevalence is key for the future of all AI. (Just don’t get too prevalent and take over our lives). If Alexa is everywhere, I’ll be happy to wear smart glasses because the benefit will be amazing.

But here is where things get a little complex. In truth, I prefer to use the Google Assistant for many tasks, especially those related to questions. Google often knows the answer, which should not be that surprising given its history of finely tuned web search results. Wearing Alexa glasses makes perfect sense in a world dominated by Amazon, but the goggles would not be as helpful if I’m switching over to Siri or the Assistant (or Cortana).

Maybe the somewhat overlooked announcement about Amazon partnering with Microsoft for bot integrations — essentially, you can activate one bot using another — is a bigger step on the road to bot domination than we all think. Maybe Alexa everywhere will work by triggering other bots and connected services. Maybe one pair of glasses will rule the world.

9 Powerful Ways to Help Your Children Reach Their Goals in the Future

When children grow up they usually begin to make plans for future and choose a profession they would like to get. But at this early age they are not experienced enough to make a good choice and all their dreams may turn out to be futile. Thus, it is important for all parents to respect their children’s decision and direct them onto the right career path. Remember that only your support and involvement will help your child to become successful and happy in their life. Consider the following tips to implement your child’s desires.

1. Plan child`s future in advance
You ought to think of your child’s future in advance in order to avoid unwanted problems later. It would be useful for them to attend special courses when they are at high school. As a result, your children will be able to acquire knowledge and skills that are necessary for a particular occupation. This way they can obtain a degree so that it will be easier to find a job afterwards.

2. Explore the job description
Once you’ve decided on your child’s career, try to examine thoroughly the description of the job. When you know all the requirements you can pick out the most appropriate degree program for your child. The right option will allow them to gain the basic skills that are essential for their profession.

3. Choose the right college
You have to be very careful while selecting the best college for your child as it is a responsible step on the way to their success. First of all this educational establishment should fit his or her abilities and interests. Don’t forget about the job requirements. That is the most crucial factor that influences your choice of the college. It would be reasonable for you to get acquainted with the academic program and subjects that your child will study. Plus, you may also survey the progress of those who graduated from this college.

4. Consider experience requirements
If your children have some experience at a certain field, it will be beneficial for them and they will get more chances to fulfill their career goals. That’s why you need to look for a related job that will enable your child to try his/her proficiency. Perhaps, it’s not the job of their dream, but this is a wonderful opportunity to pave their way to great achievements and succeed in the selected industry. Moreover, your child can study and acquire experience at the same time.

5. Advanced degree programs
Certainly, employers are more interested in those graduates who have a master’s degree. Even if you lack experience, they will accept you eagerly since your degree characterizes you as a highly educated and proficient person. Due to this I recommend you to encourage your child to get a higher degree after their bachelor program. Good education is the main thing they need for further advancements.

6. Check if there are any internships
Today there are lots of colleges that offer internships to their students. So, you should assist your children to apply for them, if possible. This is an excellent way to practice in their favorite sphere of activity. The only thing you may not like about internships is the fact that they don’t pay a salary. However, experience is the most valuable quality for your child.

7. Review salary maximums
Undoubtedly, salary is one of those things that determine our career choice. A perfect job is the one that brings us enjoyment and a high salary as well. Unfortunately, it’s rather difficult to find such job these days. Still you should be aware of the maximum salary your child can earn while being engaged in the selected career. Sure, when they just start to work for the company, you can’t expect huge sums of money. But if they get a promotion, their salary will be increased anyway.

8. Examine the job market
It is impossible to reach the desirable results in a definite industry in case you don’t know how to examine the job market. Parents must teach their children to spot the most profitable regions for their career. Having gained recognition at one place, they can easily switch to a new highly-paid job that will provide prosperity to them.

9. Stay positive
Bear in mind that your emotional state has a great impact on your child. Therefore, you should do your best to cheer them up whatever happens. When children see their parents in a good mood, they will be inspired to attain their aim. Your praise is a splendid way to motivate them to continue their journey. They should be ready for different obstacles on their career path. Failure is not the reason to give up, it’s just a chance to take a new step.

Your child’s happiness and success mostly depend on your encouragement and approval of their dreams. When it comes to their future, you shouldn’t stay aside. It is the responsibility of all parents to help their children find the right way in life and to be near whenever they need. Your support and understanding will make them feel confident and they will reach their goals effortlessly. What do you usually do to inspire your children to fulfill their dreams?

10 Things to Remind Yourself of Every Morning to Have a Happier Day

Although you may not always love everything about your life, it’s important to be grateful for a new day, each day. You may have lots of problems and you may not feel happy this morning but you need to be grateful for the fact that you are alive and that you have another day to make your life happier. Everything and anything is possible in this life, you just need to believe in that.

Unfortunately, many of us don’t always believe we can change our lives; we often believe otherwise. Many people believe they’re not capable of living their lives the way they want to live them, and they accept their reality as others have told them it has to be.

If you want to live your life to the fullest, without regrets, you need to keep in mind that you always have a choice and you are the only person who can decide to let things make you happy or unhappy. If you choose to be happy, trust me, no one will make you unhappy. Read on to discover a few important things you should remind yourself of every morning to have a happier day, each day.

1. This day is a blessing
Just think of how many people die each day and you will realize that waking up to see another day to enjoy life is a real blessing. When you wake up in the morning, remind yourself that this day is a blessing. You get another day to breathe, enjoy life, and reach your goals.

2. This day can be happy, but only if you make it so
Stop feeling powerless and stop waiting for things to be given to you. It’s your life so make the most of it. If you want something to achieve – work for it. No matter what the weather, today is a good day, even if you have a bad mood. You always have the power to control your mood and you always have the power to have a productive and happy day, you just need to choose to have one.

3. No one can hurt you today
Remember no one can hurt you today, unless you let them do it. If someone hurts you, don’t take it personally. Don’t allow insults to get to your heart and make sure you avoid toxic people. When you don’t take anything personally, you feel happier and nothing keeps your from reaching your goals. Learn to live your life without worrying about the judgments of others and you will become a much happier person.

4. Stay calm in tough situations
Staying calm and kind in difficult situations is a huge challenge. Tough situations can happen each day. The problem is, how are you going to respond to them? You may get upset and angry and this will ruin your entire day. Or, you may stay calm and kind, solve your problem faster and enjoy a happy day. The choice is yours. But remember, anger will never help solve problems. It can only make your life miserable.

5. You can control many things in your life
Sure, you can’t control everything in your life, but there are many things that you can control each day. Stop thinking that your life is out of your control. Take some time to make the list of the things you can control in life and look through this list every morning. You will see that you are a master of your life and you have the power to change anything about your life.

6. Success is a lifestyle, not a result
Everyone wants to be successful, but we often forget that success isn’t a specific achievement. Success is a lifestyle. It’s the ability to live life on your own terms no matter what. Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be.” If you decide to be successful, you will be successful. Stay positive, work toward success and be proud of it each day.

7. You don’t need anyone’s approval
Remind yourself that you don’t need anyone’s approval to be successful and happy today. The need for approval can stop you from reaching your goals and rising higher. Don’t let anyone control your life. It may feel uncomfortable to say “no,” but if some people and obligations don’t add any value to your life, don’t be afraid to say “no” to them. Make the most of each day. Don’t wait around for someone else to give you permission to be happy and do what you want to do.

8. Complaining won’t help you become happier
If you are a constant complainer, you need to break this bad habit starting today. Complaining won’t help you become successful and happy. If you don’t like your current situation, don’t sit around complaining about it, start changing it instead. Stay positive in every situation and you will solve your problems faster without damaging your health. It has been proven that complaining is bad for the brain health. Moreover, it can affect your quality of life and ruin your relationships.

9. Good things in life end faster when you don’t appreciate them
We often tend to think that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, and others live much happier lives than we live. The reality is, the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence and you live a happy life – you just don’t appreciate it or simply don’t notice it. Learn to appreciate all the things you have in your life to live a more fulfilling life. Don’t wait for them to end before you begin appreciating them. Being grateful has its rewards. I recommend you to start your day with writing down at least 5 things, people, acts or events you are grateful for to have a happier day.

10. Healthy eating is the key to a longer life
Don’t worry, I’m not going to tell you to stick to a strict diet. But if you want to live a longer life, make sure you eat healthy foods daily. Avoid processed foods and try to boost your fruit and vegetable intake. Never skip your breakfast, and aim to eat smaller meals throughout the day. A healthy breakfast will jumpstart your brain and help improve your productivity and focus throughout the morning. Eating small, healthy meals throughout the day will keep your tummy happy and healthy, and boost your energy levels and mood. I don’t know about you, but when I’m hungry I can’t be productive and happy, which is why I always have a nutritious breakfast and make smart snack choices throughout the day. It helps me to work better, feel better, and hopefully, live longer! The next time you wake up in the morning and don’t feel like eating your breakfast, remind yourself that healthy eating is the key to a longer, happier life.

There are many important things we need to remind ourselves of every morning. These are just a few things I remind myself in the morning and when I have a hard day. They help me remember that life is a wonderful thing no matter what. What are some of your favorite things to remind yourself of every morning to have a happier day?

Live Longer With Biotechnology – If You Can Afford To Pay For It

With the recent news that scientists in the United States have used CRISPR gene editing technology to remove a disease-causing mutation from the DNA of a human embryo for the first time, many life-saving biotechnology breakthroughs seem closer than ever before.

But with those advances come the potential for much harm, if we don’t tread carefully, says Michael Bess, the Chancellor’s Professor of History at Vanderbilt University and author of the book “Our Grandchildren Redesigned: Life in the Bioengineered Society of the Near Future.”

“The most blatant risk to me is exacerbating the gap between the rich and the poor,” Bess says. “With the emergence of a biologically-based caste system, where some people have the ability to amplify themselves up to higher levels and the poor get left behind, we’d be taking the inequality that exists in our society and writing it into our very biology.”

Bess will discuss the potential benefits and pitfalls of recent breakthroughs in biotechnology during Dawn or Doom ’17, a conference on the risks and rewards of emerging technology. Dawn or Doom will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 26 and 27, on Purdue University’s West Lafayette, Indiana, campus and is free and open to the public.

Dawn or Doom, which includes a track called Designing Humans: Bioengineering and Human Design, also will include featured talks by Robb Fraley, chief technology officer at Monsanto and a World Food Prize winner; Nicolas Thompson, WIRED editor-in-chief; Quentin Hardy, Google’s head editor; and Tom Bradicich, vice president and general manager of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. Other tracks at the conference include Designing Food, Designing Cities, Designing Information and Designing the Workforce.

The potential “dawn” Bess foresees from biotechnological enhancements in such areas as pharmaceuticals, bioelectronics and epigenetics sounds great: the ability to live “healthful, vigorous, mentally clear lives for decades longer than we do now.” But that dawn is not without a great deal of potential doom.

Inequality is not the only risk that worries Bess. He also fears these technologies could erode our sense of human individuality, leading us to treat people like commodities whose self-worth is determined only by their capabilities.

“You can slip rather easily into a mentality that becomes coldly comparative and forgets to respect people in basic ways,” he says.

Star Trek motivated Bess to research these topics. The character Data, a human-like android on the TV series “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” captivated him and he initially set out to write about artificial intelligence and the possibility of machines achieving human-like personality traits. As he began researching the subject, he realized that the possibility of humans modifying our own biology presented an even more pressing issue.

Even in the field of biotechnology, however, machines are ever present, Bess notes. In his book, he discusses some of the ways they may intersect with us, including through research that’s demonstrated that we have the ability to control robotic limbs with our minds.

“I think people underestimate just how profoundly we’re going to be merging with our machines over the coming years,” he says.

7 Ways to Know if Your Work Is Stressing You Out

In today’s increasingly fast-paced society, stress has become a way of life and many of us are suffering from it more than ever before. No matter how much sleep you get, you might feel exhausted or notice you are breaking out more often, even though you are eating healthy. There are many signs your work is stressing you out, and if you know about them, you can always make some small changes in your life!

1. Insomnia
Each night you are falling into bed very tired, yet you cannot fall asleep. Worries and troubles from your day start spinning round and round in your head, and even if you get some sleep, you will feel very tired in the morning. You can also fall asleep fast, but then you wake up in the early hours and you cannot get back to sleep. If it sounds familiar to you, this is a sure sign your work is stressing you out. In order to fight insomnia and sleep great, take a bath and drink warm chamomile tea before going to bed. You can also try a pillow mist with lavender, known for its excellent relaxing qualities.

2. Bags under your eyes
Bags under your eyes could be an evidence of an iron or vitamin deficiency or a sure sign you are not getting enough sleep. They can also be caused by stress or illness. So if you’ve noticed dark circles or bags under your eyes, pay attention to your diet as well as lifestyle and try to make some changes like going to bed early, taking a relaxing bath and practicing meditation. If you have always had dark circles and bags under your eyes, this can be genetic or because of some health problems. Be sure to visit your doctor!

3. Skin problems
Frequent breakouts, especially in the chin and jaw line area, are another sign your work is stressing you out. Some other signs could include dry and flaky patches, extremely oily skin or a dull and tired looking complexion. When you are healthy and happy, your skin glows, so if you are noticing itchy, irritated skin, it’s actually not your diet that is to blame, it’s your job! Worrying about job and lack of sleep can impact your skin. Use a gentle cleanser and high-quality moisturizer to gently clean and moisturize your skin. You can also use a homemade honey and sugar scrub. Honey is proven to have an antibacterial properties and this is really soothing.

4. Your eating habits have changed
Have you changed your eating habits? This is a warning sign your work is stressing you out! If you find yourself relying on caffeine and sugar, fatty foods to give you the boost of energy, keep in mind that it can affect your health and weight goals. I agree, this provides the body with a quick fix, but it will eventually lead to you feeling more exhausted, since sugar is processed fast by the body and will leave you with that terrible mid-afternoon energy slump, where you are struggling to stay awake and alert at your workplace. Try to leave all your worries at the office and make sure you snack on fruit and nuts throughout the day and eat a well-balanced evening meal. Foods like sweet potatoes and almonds are good for your body and they can help to lower stress levels.

5. Skipping meals
This is actually a dangerous habit, which can leave you feeling tired, sluggish and drained. Moreover, your body will go into a starvation mode and start storing fat, because it doesn’t know when it will get the next meal. If you are constantly stressed at work, I’m quite sure that you skip lunch because you might not feel like eating. But you should never skip meals. If you don’t want to eat, opt for some nuts or a piece of fruit, or try a light option like a chicken salad. Remember, your body needs fuel to fight stress and you will feel much worse if you skip lunch.

6. You are always moody and snappy
If you are constantly snapping at your husband or family members over the smallest things, or you are always moody with your friends or coworkers for no reason, it’s one of the signs your work is stressing you out. Take some time to assess how you are feeling about your job; it might be time for a change of your career path!

7. You dread going to work
If you find that you are constantly dreading going to work, it may be a sign you are unhappy with your job. It’s important to find out why you are feeling like this; maybe you are feeling stressed about the big project you are working on or dreading an upcoming presentation. Don’t allow feelings of stress and anxiety to crush your enjoyment of work, and don’t be afraid to speak to your boss about how you are feeling. Some of the responsibility might be shared with a coworker.

All of us experience stress, but the key is to find out what is stressing you out and make some changes in your life. You only live once, so make sure you enjoy your life! Is your job stressing you out? What do you do to unwind after a hard day at work? Share your tips please.

10 Ways to Tell If It’s Real Love or Bipolar Mania

Is it love when you’re swept by euphoria, a special connection, erotic stirrings, constant thoughts of another or are those signs of looming mania, with a reckless lack of judgment and over-the-top impulsive actions? Experts from the Human Sexuality Committee of the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry offer this mental checklist:

#1 What is love for you?

Can you identify differences between your experience of love when healthy and when manic? For individuals with bipolar disorder this knowledge may be elusive and change with different stages of life, but reflection should provide you with some guideposts.

#2 What qualities would a loving partner have?

Who would make a compatible mate? Ask yourself this question for three time points in your life: when you are depressed and needy, manic and invincible, and at a point when your mood is even. You will need a partner to all three states.

#3 What about sex?

What is your normal comfort level and how does that change during mania? Sexual discussions are often uncomfortable within families, but should be part of a clinical assessment. Talk frankly with your doctor and therapist about the whole range of your sexual experiences and desires, past, present, and future.

#4 What characterizes your manic states?

Although it may vary somewhat, there’s generally a pattern you can identify when it comes to relationships. Do you embrace romance? Start a friendship group in your apartment? Pursue sexual encounters in person or online? Note other tell-tale symptoms, such as changes in sleep patterns or excessive spending.

#5 Have you evaluated your judgment/impulsivity?

People in love are often impulsive but their judgment remains relatively intact. Have you neglected important value-based issues because your mind is racing and concentration is destroyed? It would be wise to question whether grand impulsive plans, like flying off to get married after the first date, might not reflect the disinhibition or spirituality of manic symptoms.

#6 Do you have the three Cs?

Consider if you have these three things with your new partner: chemistry, compatibility and commitment. There is a tendency for people with bipolar disorder to use romantic relationshipsas a kind of antidote, at least in the first flush of happiness. You may feel that life is so great and your depression is cured.

#7 Bought anything recently?

Lovers’ gifts, even if expensive, tend to be intimate—a diamond watch because she loved it in the window, a CD that you mixed just for him. In contrast, manic purchases are more likely to be status driven, such as a Porsche you can no way afford, or multiples, such as six similar purses in a day.

#8 Is this about you?

Do you think you are super talented and special, or is it your new lover that is the most perfect thing? People who are manic become full of themselves, or “grandiose.” Lovers are infatuated with the beloved.

#9 Have you done a mental check during a period of stability?

Answer significant questions: Are your feelings for everyone more intense, both good and bad? Are you thinking a mile a minute about just this one person, obsessed and preoccupied or are you just thinking a mile a minute? Do you share the interests of this person only when manic? Is a new love affair the only new thing in your life, or have you started new projects in other areas of your life as well?

#10 What’s up with your personal clocks?

If your appetite, energy, sleep cycle, and response to the season are in your manic pattern, try to be suspicious of yourself, something obviously hard to do as mania takes hold.
