10 Easy Home Remedies for Puffy Eyes

The skin around the eyes is very thin and sensitive and it’s important to care for it every single day. You know, the first thing that other people notice about you is your face. Having dark circles or puffiness under your eyes may not send the message you want to send. Luckily, there are a number of simple, time-tested home remedies that do wonders for puffy eyes.

1. Cold Tea Bags
The best way to do this is to boil water and pour just enough over the tea bags to wet them. Let them cool in a refrigerator and then place them on your eyes to reduce puffiness. It isn’t necessary to use caffeinated tea, but caffeine will help to reduce puffiness to an even greater degree. It can even help to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

2. Cucumbers
Everyone knows about applying cucumber slices to the eyes to reduce puffiness, but few know that there is a second, even more effective way to use this vegetable for puffiness. A juice, made by blending a cucumber, will act as a highly effective astringent. Just spread it around your eyes and leave it for fifteen minutes before rinsing it away.

3. Potatoes
Believe it or not, potatoes are great for your eyes. They contain an enzyme, called catecholase, that can lighten skin and reduce the dark circles associated with puffiness. If you use cool potato slices, the cooling effect will also help to reduce puffiness. You can also puree the potatoes to create a paste, which is even more effective because it forms to the skin better. This remedy takes about thirty minutes to work.

4. Mint Leaves
Crush a few mint leaves up and set them under your eyes. The natural astringent effect of mint will help to reduce puffiness and lessen dark circles. This treatment only takes five minutes, so it is great for people who are in a hurry. You can mix the crushed mint with a bit of honey or olive oil to create a paste. Honey has its own beauty effects, including antimicrobial properties that can reduce acne.

5. Rose Water
Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties and contains vitamins A and C, which are known to be beneficial to skin. Soak a cotton ball or cotton pad in rose water and place on your eyes for about ten minutes. To make rose water, bring distilled water to a boil and then add rose petals. Let them simmer, in a covered pot, until the petals lose their coloration. Store the water in a cool place.

6. Almond Oil
Almond oil is highly effective at reducing dark circles under your eyes. You can make it by pureeing almonds in a blender with a little milk or you can buy almond oil in the baking aisle at most grocery stores and mix it with baking soda to make a paste. This is an overnight treatment, however, so it won’t work in a pinch.

7. Salt
This one is the simplest of all. Mix half a teaspoon of salt into a quart of warm water. Dip cotton balls or pads into the water and apply them to your eyes for at least ten minutes. The salt will draw water out of your skin and reduce the puffy appearance. If you decide to go longer than ten minutes, which is fine, then change out the cotton balls for new ones.

8. Strawberries
Strawberries contain alpha-hydroxy acid, which is great for reducing aging effects on skin and for reducing under eye puffiness. Use strawberries that have been in the refrigerator to cool the skin and reduce swelling as well. Sliced strawberries can be placed on your eyes for a few minutes. This process is fast and effective, so it is nice to use when you don’t have much time.

9. Aloe Vera
Aloe is great for reducing swelling under the eyes, but it is slower than most of the remedies mentioned above. Plan to use aloe every day or every other day for a week before you see effects. It is a nice way to maintain your appearance over time, which is why many people put a little on before bed each night.

10. Orange Juice
This one also takes some time, so use orange juice as a way to maintain appearance rather than as a quick fix. Most people make a paste by mixing orange juice with glycerine or a little gelatin. They apply it under the eyes several times per week and leave it for several hours or over night. The beauty of orange juice is that it contains vitamin C, which is outstanding for skin health.

Puffiness occurs because lymphatic drainage from the area under the eye can’t keep up with the rate at which fluid is being deposited there. The remedies above work by either reducing the deposition of fluid or by aiding in its removal. For a long term solution to puffy eyes, get adequate rest and avoid excessive salt in your diet as it can cause you to retain water. A little caffeine in your diet will also help by acting as a natural diuretic (removes water from the body.) Dietary and lifestyle approaches are slower, but also more lasting. What’s your favorite home remedy for puffy eyes?

10 Surprising Beauty Uses for Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has been used for centuries both for cooking and medicinal purposes. It is packed with health-boosting fatty acids, and its natural antifungal and antibacterial properties promote healing when used topically. The following list gives ten ways that you can incorporate coconut oil into your everyday routine and ditch the toxic, chemical laden products once and for all.

1. Moisturizer
Coconut oil can be used directly on the skin as an effective deep moisturizing treatment. It is especially useful on problem areas such as the feet, elbows and knees. After a bath or shower, rub coconut oil all over your skin whilst it is still wet to lock in moisture. Apply a generous amount to your face before bed as a powerful and inexpensive night cream.

2. Hair Mask
Very curly or afro hair should always be treated with some kind of oil to smooth frizz and prevent breakage, but those with straight or fine hair can also reap the benefits of oil treatments. Apply coconut oil to the lengths and ends of your hair. Comb through to ensure it is evenly distributed. Wrap your head in cling film, and allow the oil to penetrate the hair for at least 15 minutes before shampooing your hair.

3. Toothpaste
The vast majority of store bought toothpastes contain fluoride, which is a toxic substance that has been linked to infertility, thyroid disease and internal haemorrhaging. You can create your own safe, natural toothpaste using coconut oil, baking soda and a few drops of essential oil. Combine 3 tablespoons of coconut oil, 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 10 – 15 drops of an essential oil such as peppermint.

4. Deodorant
Make your own safe, lead-free deodorant using equal parts of coconut oil, baking soda and either arrowroot powder or corn starch. Apply to the underarms after a bath or shower to absorb any moisture during the day and kill odour-causing bacteria. Those who are sensitive to baking soda can substitute it for more arrowroot powder or corn starch.

5. Dietary Supplement
When taken internally, coconut oil provides a healthy dose of fatty acids, vitamins and even aids calcium absorption. Use it in place of vegetable oil for frying, or add it to vegetable or pasta dishes at the end for a healthy flavor boost. It can also be added to tea, coffee or soups to enjoy its numerous health benefits.

6. Makeup Remover
The delicate skin around the eye is one of the first areas that start to show signs of aging. We often accelerate this process through the use of harsh chemicals in makeup, eye creams and moisturizing lotions. Give your eyes some much needed nourishment by removing eye makeup using a dab of coconut oil on a clean piece of cotton. This will remove even the toughest waterproof mascara whilst helping to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

7. Sunscreen
Conventional sunscreens block both UVA and UVB rays. Whilst UVA is damaging to the skin, your body requires UVB in order to produce vitamin D. Sunscreens also contain many toxic chemicals that do not belong in your body, so slather on some coconut oil next time you hit the beach to provide protection from harmful rays. Bear in mind that coconut oil will not be able to keep you from burning under the hot midday sun, so try to stay out of the sunlight from 10am until 3pm.

8. Oil-Pulling
Oil-pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy that involves placing a teaspoon of oil in the mouth and swishing it around for at least 15 minutes. The oil draws all of the toxins out of the body through the gums and lining of the cheeks and also helps to break down plaque and prevent gum disease. Try to pull the oil in between the teeth and gums to remove trapped bacteria and food particles. Spit the oil out, and then brush your teeth immediately to remove any traces of toxins.

9. Spot Treatment
Coconut oil’s natural antibacterial properties make it an ideal treatment for acne and problem skin. Those who suffer from oily skin often aggravate the problem by over-cleansing their face and using harsh creams to dry the skin. This leads to your pores creating more oil to compensate for the drying effects. Smother your skin in oil before going to bed at night, or apply a dab directly to pimples as a gentle spot treatment.

10. Stretchmark Prevention
Stretchmarks do not only occur during pregnancy. Suddenly losing or gaining a large amount of weight, body building, puberty and hormone replacement therapy can all cause the appearance of stretch marks on the skin. Keeping the skin moisturized can help to prevent them from occurring, and also help to reduce the appearance of existing stretchmarks. Apply coconut oil liberally to affected areas, and gently massage in until completely absorbed.

Coconut oil can be purchased relatively cheaply from most supermarkets or health food stores. Always try to find organic, raw and cold pressed coconut oil that still contains all of its natural fatty acids and minerals. As well as being one of the most versatile and safe natural products, coconut oil has a delicious tropical aroma that is far more appealing than the synthetic smell of conventional products. Have you ever used coconut oil in your beauty routine?

10 Nourishing Oils for Your Skin and Hair

Are you weary about rubbing chemicals into your skin that are often found in today’s skin and hair care products? Natural oils can be used to effectively nourish and moisturize your skin, and sometimes they do a better job than the products you find at the drugstore or department store. Here are 10 nourishing oils you can use for better skin and hair.

1. Olive Oil
Olive oil is found in most people’s homes, but it rarely leaves the kitchen. Though it is a heavier oil, it can be used to effectively moisturize the skin. Rub 1 or 2 teaspoons of olive oil all over your body until it is absorbed. It will form a barrier holding in moisture. Look for organic extra virgin olive oil if possible.

2. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is often found on super food lists because of all the healthful benefits. It can be used similarly as olive oil as a moisturizer for the skin and scalp. Rub a tiny bit between your hands and smooth it over your hair to reduce frizz. The healthy acids in the coconut oil are antibacterial and can prevent or reduce infections. Eat 1 or 2 teaspoons of coconut oil everyday to get the full benefits inside and out.

3. Jojoba Oil
Jojoba oil is more expensive, but it is the ideal moisturizer for skin and hair because it most closely resembles the natural oil that your skin produces. If you use harsh shampoos that strip your hair and scalp of natural oils, use a drop or 2 of jojoba oil to replenish. Most people don’t like oily hair, but jojoba oil is light enough that using it as a moisturizer and frizz reducer is fine. Nourishing a dry scalp regularly may also help your scalp normalize and produce the right amount of oil once again.

4. Hazelnut Oil
Hazelnut makes a delicious spread for toast, but more importantly, it is great for the skin. As with most oils, it is very moisturizing, but it is also great for those with acne prone skin. If you develop acne more quickly, you probably have oily skin caused by over-productive oil glands. Hazelnut oil can naturally calm the oil glands to ensure that they only produce enough oil to moisturize the skin instead of leaving it greasy.

5. Almond Oil
Almond oil is one of the best oils for skin. It moisturizes, but it can also help reduce dark circles around the eyes, prevent premature aging, and remove dead skin cells. Use it as a cleansing oil by massaging it into dry skin for 1 minute and then rinsing off with a warm damp wash cloth. Almond oil can also help reduce inflammation for those who suffer from psoriasis or eczema.

6. Emu Oil
Emu oil has been used for centuries to moisturize. These days, many people are taking advantage of the anti-aging benefits. It is known to help smooth out and prevent wrinkles especially around the eyes. It can also be used to help reduce pain and inflammation caused by injury. If you have joint problems, try using emu oil as a topical treatment.

7. Argan Oil
Argan oil is similar to many other healthy oils in that it can hydrate skin and reduce frizzy hair. Add it to a facial mask to moisturize while tightening pores. Use it as a deep moisturizing treatment for your hair. Saturate your hair with 2 or 3 tablespoons of argan oil focusing on the length of your hair that is older and more brittle. Cover it with a plastic shower cap and towel, and shampoo it out in the morning. Your hair will be soft and shiny.

8. Avocado Oil
Avocados are well known for their healthy fats. These healthy fats can be used in a concentrated oil to help moisturize, but they can also help speed up healing of the skin. Add avocado oil to your diet to help lower blood cholesterol, and possibly prevent cancer.

9. Macadamia Nut Oil
Macadamia nuts are considered a treat because they are so expensive. Their mono-saturated fats can be used in beauty recipes to moisturize and reduce inflammation. Use a cold-pressed macadamia nut oil for the best results and quality.

10. Grapeseed Oil
Grapeseed oil is often used in cooking because it has a high smoking point. It retains its healthy fats even when raised to a high temperature. It can also be used topically. If you like the lightness of jojoba oil but you want something slightly more moisturizing or less expensive, grapeseed oil is a great choice. It is odorless and can be added to whipped butters such as shea or cocoa butter.

While I don’t recommend using all 10 of these oils simultaneously, I do suggest picking a few to try out and experiment with. Check a local health food store or buy the products online. Mix them together or use with natural butters for the best results. What’s your favorite oil for skin and hair?

10 Tips for Dealing with Adult Acne

It’s easy to dismiss acne as a problem relegated to the Belieber-aged crowd. But sadly, as too many men and women have discovered, middle-aged acne can strike a full grown adult without warning. If you suddenly find yourself re-facing the dreaded breakout (or if you’re suffering from acne as an adult for the first time in your life) the blame might lie on anything from hormones and stress to dietary changes or new skin sensitivities. Here are ten pro tips for dealing with grown-up blemishes.

1. Narrow Down Allergens
Sometimes, sudden adult breakouts are caused by developing allergies to products or foods, even if you’ve used them before. This is because as we age, our skin becomes thinner and more sensitive. If you think something you’re eating might be causing your adult acne, consider keeping a food diary. If you notice a link between certain foods and skin blemishes, try eliminating that food for a couple of weeks and reevaluate.

If you wear makeup or use skin lotions and beauty products, consider switching to a brand formulated for acne-prone or sensitive skin and see if that helps calm your skin issues, as well.

2. No Butts
If you need yet another reason to quit smoking once and for all, your adult acne may just be it. The carcinogens, tar and smoke from cigarettes has been shown to cause and aggravate breakouts. Stop lighting up, and your face might just clear up too.

3. Hands Off!
It can be tempting to pick, poke and prod at your face during an acne breakout. But the truth is, your hands are a breeding ground for bacteria and germs. No touching your face unless you want to spread those pore-clogging oils and dirt around

4. Tea Tree Oil
For those looking for a natural way to treat their acne without expensive and harsh treatments, tea tree oil might be the ideal solution. A natural disinfectant and antibacterial, dabbing a little tea tree oil onto blemishes with a clean cotton swab will reduce the number and severity of your breakouts.

5. Avoid Over-Scrubbing
It’s tempting to assume that the more often (and the more vigorously) you wash your face, the faster your middle-aged acne will clear up. Unfortunately, over exfoliating, scrubbing and over utilizing harsh treatment products will have the exact opposite effect. Scrubbing your face often will stimulate sebum production, which will then clog pores and lead to more breakouts.

6. Moisturize
Again, moisturizing acne-prone skin sounds counter-intuitive. But washing your face and applying treatment products strips your face of natural oils. To combat this, your sebaceous glands will then produce more oil, which then leads to even more breakouts. Find an oil-free moisturizer specifically created for acne prone skin, and apply twice a day.

7. Consider the Pill
If you’re an adult woman and notice that your breakouts coincide with your period or PMS, you may want to talk to your doctor about oral contraceptives. When your monthly cycle is to blame for skin craziness, the birth control pill can help you stabilize the hormones that lead to blemishes.

Even if you don’t notice a direct correlation between your period and your breakouts, birth control pills might still be able to help. If you’ve got PCOS (many women do and, thanks to no symptoms, have no idea) or any other condition that causes an increase in male hormones, the pill can help get your body back in check.

8. Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid are Your Friends
Anyone who’s ever struggled with acne in their lifetime is probably familiar with salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide. Both of these ingredients have been designed and specialized to expressly treat skin blemishes, pimples, redness and acne scars. The key, when dealing with acne as an adult, is to bypass the harsh treatments and products designed for teenaged skin. Instead, look for gentler versions of cleansers, exfoliators and spot treatments crafted for sensitive or mature skin. This will help eliminate your breakouts, redness and inflammation without damaging your skin.

9. H2o Matters
If you’re not drinking at least eight glasses of water a day, your acne could be getting worse, regardless of what treatments you’re using. Your skin is your body’s largest organ. Like everything else in the complicated system that is the human form, water is a necessity to keep it running smoothly. Not drinking enough water not only dries your skin to the touch, it can cause itchy, flaky and even oily skin. So keep hydrated and watch your skin’s overall health improve.

10. Get to the Dermatologist
Sometimes, acne is a one or two time issue that can be cleared up with home treatment. But once your adult acne has become a reoccurring problem, or you cannot pinpoint the cause of your skin distress, it’s time to see a doctor. A dermatologist can help you decipher the root of your problems, and can prescribe a treatment program suited to your particular skin and needs.

It can be hard to cope with adult acne, but it’s possible, especially if you know where to start. Hopefully, these tips will help you to fight acne and enjoy the perfectly clear skin. Do you have any other tips?

10 Weird Beauty Tips That Really Work

People do some crazy things and we’ve all seen our share. Yet when it comes to these crazy-beauty tips, you’ll find some actually work! The following tips might sound strange, but give them a try and see for yourself how effective they can be.

1. Real Mayonnaise for Your Hair
All the fat and oils in mayonnaise may be lousy for your hips, but they are sure good for your hair. This is one of those old tips that never seems to go away no matter how bad it smells! The smell aside, this does work when you want to give your hair some deep conditioning. You don’t have to leave it in all night though; a twenty-thirty minute treatment will do. You also don’t need to use the whole jar – a teaspoon or tablespoon for long hair will do fine.

2. Olive Oil for Your Hair
If mayonnaise is too much for you, consider the beauty treatment that Mediterranean women have long used for their hair – olive oil! The nutrients and fat in the oil can coat the hair luxuriantly and protect it with its rich array of nutrients. Coat your tresses with olive oil for about ten minutes before rinsing. You’ll love how lusciously soft your locks will feel after this deep moisturizing treatment.

3. Diaper Rash Cream
If you are experiencing a bout of dry and cracked feet, go ahead and borrow your baby’s diaper rash cream. This gentle stuff is also magical and will repair and protect your little cutesy footsies! The brand shouldn’t matter as they all work much the same, but you might find one with a scent you prefer – with sleep-time lavender for instance!

4. Soothe a Sun Burn
If you’ve fallen asleep in the sun having forgotten to reapply your sunscreen, you might wake up with a bad burn. You’ll want to promote healing fast and also reduce the pain, swelling, and inflammation. Just run a hot bath and steep some tea; that’s correct, you’ll be taking a black tea bath to get your skin back on track. The tannins in the tea will help you feel better and allow your skin to begin to mend.

5. Lemon Loves Blonde
If you want to naturally lighten your hair, squeeze some fresh lemon juice into it before going outside to garden or hang out at the beach. The acid in the lemon reacts when struck by the UV rays of the sun. The best part about this lightening is that is looks sun-kissed and not kissed by a bottle of hair dye.

6. Preparation H
This one may not entirely take the cake as far as weirdness goes (it does take a good chunk of it however), but, indeed, hemorrhoid cream like this well-known name brand can reduce the under-eye puffiness that plagues many, especially as we begin to age. Its anti-inflammatory properties can make a big difference on your face as well as…er… you know. If this just isn’t your cup of tea, go ahead and put a couple boring slices of cold cucumber over your eyes which can also do the trick.

7. Strawberry Teeth
Want to naturally clean and whiten your teeth? Mash up a strawberry and use it as a paste. While this isn’t recommended for daily use, it can naturally whiten your teeth. Moreover, it tastes great! Be sure to rinse, though, as the acid in the strawberries isn’t something you want to leave on your teeth. Strawberries are great natural skin cleansers too.

8. Toothpaste Zit Remedy
If you want to dry out a pimple quickly, add a dab of toothpaste to it. Of course, no gels; this remedy requires plain white toothpaste. It does work and it’s even cheaper than many over-the-counter pimple remedies. Don’t coat your face with it, but if you need a fast remedy and this is all you happen to have on hand, go ahead and use it. It’s a weird remedy that many people swear by.

9. Caffeinated Body Scrub
Did you think your coffee grounds were only good for getting you rolling in the morning? It’s time to rethink your morning ritual because coffee grounds also make an effective exfoliating scrub for your body. Slough away dead skin cells and smell the wonderful aroma of coffee while you do it. Experts also say the caffeine in the grounds can stimulate new skin cells. If you run out of exfoliation products, give this a try and see how it works for you; you’ll see some cellulite disappear on top of it all which is a great benefit.

10. Say Goodbye to the Bloat
One glass of water mixed with about a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar can help you decrease that bloated feeling that makes it seem like nothing you own fits you anymore. In fact, this remedy is known to work as fast as ten minutes. On the other hand, simply adding more water can also help you get your bloating situation under control. Also be sure to cut down on carbonated beverages and consider eating your vegetables cooked instead of raw.

There are many other weird beauty tips that many women use daily, but these are the most popular. Do you know or use any weird beauty tips? Share them with us, please.

10 Tips to Make Hot Oil Hair Treatment

A hot oil treatment is a fabulous way to moisturize dry, brittle hair that has been damaged from heat styling and harsh weather. You can purchase hot oil treatments from pharmacies and hair salons, but it is far cheaper and more effective to create your own using natural ingredients. The following tips will help you create the perfect hot oil treatment that guarantees perfect results.

1. Choose Your Oil
You can use just about any oil you wish to make your hot oil treatment. Certain oils have individual properties that are useful on different types of hair. Coconut oil is ideal for those suffering from dandruff or itchy scalp. Jojoba oil is perfect for greasy hair as it is lighter than other varieties. For those with dry, frizzy or afro hair, avocado oil will add much needed moisture and shine.

2. Prepare Your Hair
You can apply your hot oil treatment to either wet or dry hair as long as it is clean and free from styling products. Ideally, shampoo your hair in the morning or the night before using a hot oil treatment to get the best results. Oil treatments are suitable for all types of hair whether it is oily, dry, coloured or fine.

3. Gather Your Equipment
Gather all the equipment you will need before starting to apply the oil to avoid running around the house with oily hands and hair. You will need a small jar to hold the oil, a large bowl, some old towels, kitchen roll for mopping up spills, and your ingredients. You will also need some boiling water to heat the oil to the required temperature.

4. Protect Your Clothing
Accidentally spilling oil onto your clothing or furniture could be a disaster. Certain fabrics, especially silk, are incredibly difficult to clean, and you may not be able to get the oil out without damaging the fabric. Wear old clothing and line the collar with kitchen paper. Try to stay inside the bathroom for the duration of the treatment as the oil will begin to drip from your hair as it heats up.

5. Heat the Oil
Once you are ready to begin, pour some boiling water into a large bowl. Pour your chosen oil into the glass jar and place it in the boiling water. The level of the water should be the same as the level of the oil within the jar. Depending on the thickness of your jar, it should only take a few minutes for the oil to heat up. While you are waiting, infuse your oil with some essential oils and natural herbs.

6. Add Some Essential Oils and Herbs
Essentials oils such as lavender, rosemary and sandalwood are perfect for those with dry brittle hair. If you suffer from greasy hair, an invigorating oil such as peppermint, lemon or tea tree oil is ideal. Herbs are also a great addition to hot oil treatments. For dark hair, use black tea, walnut shells, rosemary and sage. If your hair is blonde, camomile, calendula and cloves are wonderful ways to enhance your natural colour. If you use herbs, gently heat the oil for at least half an hour before using.

7. Apply Oil to Your Hair
Start by taking small handfuls of oil and massaging it gently into your scalp. This stimulates the hair follicles encouraging new growth. Slowly work your way through the lengths of your hair to the ends. You want to apply a thin coat of oil to your hair. If you drench your entire head, then you will have difficulties shampooing the oil out later.

8. Turn Up the Heat
Once you have coated your hair in oil from the roots to the tips, place a plastic shower cap over your head or wrap your hair in cling film. Wrap a warm, damp towel over your head, and leave the oil on your hair for at least 30 minutes. Ideally, leaving the oil on your hair for two hours will allow it to penetrate deep into the hair shaft helping to repair damage and replace lost moisture.

9. Wash Your Hair
Once you are ready to wash the treatment out of your hair, begin by rinsing your hair in the hottest water that you can stand. Next, gently shampoo your hair as many times as it takes to remove all of the oil. Most people do not need to use a conditioner after a hot oil treatment, but if your hair is curly or especially dry then it is advisable to use one.

10. Enjoy Smooth, Silky Hair
Allow your hair to air dry completely or for as long as you can. Avoid using heated styling tools such as hairdryers and straighteners unless you absolutely have to. Repeat your hot oil treatments at least once a fortnight for strong, healthy hair. Experiment with different formulas until you find one that works perfectly for your hair.

Jars of hot oil treatments infused with herbs and essential oils make wonderful homemade gifts for family and friends. Once you have applied the oil to your hair, take the time to relax and read a book, sip some wine or even soak in a hot bath whilst the oil penetrates into your hair and scalp.

10 Best Ways to Get Rid of Freckles

Freckles are a very common blemish, particularly for those with light skin. While they can be a sign of sun damage, you are more or less prone to them depending on genetics. These little brown spots can appear anywhere on the body, though hands and face are usually the most affected. You can often get rid of these marks with medical methods, but most people try home remedies first. Here are a few methods you might want to try yourself. But make sure you consult your doctor or dermatologist first.

1. Bleach cream
To get rid of spots and discolored skin, you can use a bleaching cream. There are several available to you, but it is a good idea to test the cream on a hidden area of your body first. Some creams can cause a reaction as they are rather strong. They may also cause your skin to darken instead of lighten, so testing the effects on your own skin is a good idea.

2. Lasers
You can have freckles removed with lasers. This can be fairly quick and is good for those who have large freckles. However, you will need to be sure that none of the spots are cancerous. Skin cancer can be insidious and may be disguised as a simple blemish. Consult your doctor first.

3. Lactic acid
Spread some sour cream over the areas that are affected by freckles and you can gently fade them. It can take a number of treatments, however, so you may want to invest in a few large tubs of sour cream. Alternatively, you can use sour milk.

4. Chemical peels
If you are determined to get rid of your blemishes, you can eliminate them with a chemical peel. Since the peel removes several layers of skin, it can get rid of any irregularities that are on the surface. Home peels are not usually a good idea, as they do not have the right strength to eliminate all blemishes and can be difficult to administer yourself. Your best bet is to see a dermatologist for this type of procedure. It will leave your skin raw for a few days, but it will heal smoothly and usually blemish free.

5. Freezing
You can also freeze your freckles, though this may be best left to a professional. Essentially, you use liquid nitrogen on the spot. This creates a blister, which causes the discolored skin to fall off after a few days. It can be a very harsh treatment, however, so you should never repeat treatments in the same area within a week.

6. Fruit and vegetable facials
Another popular home remedy is to use certain fruits and vegetables on your face. Making your own face mask is easy. Just toss the desired ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Spread the mask on your skin and let it sit for 10-20 minutes. Good options include apricots, strawberries and cucumbers. Parsley juice mixed with lemon juice is also a good choice.

7. Lemon juice
The juice of lemons has long been used to create lighter skin. It can actually lighten your freckles naturally. However, the acid in the lemon juice may be irritating to your skin so test it on a small patch before you spread it over your entire face. You can apply just the juice or cut a lemon in half and rub it over the spots.

8. Vitamin C
If you prefer a method of getting rid of freckles that doesn’t involve smearing things on your face, you can take Vitamin C supplements. You can get this from certain foods, as well. Citrus is an excellent source of Vitamin C. It will help protect your skin from forming new freckles by making it more resistant to the sun’s rays. You can also avoid the sun, particularly around midday, when the UV rays are strongest.

9. Eggplant
Slice fresh eggplant and apply to the most affected areas. You can gently massage the eggplant slice into your skin to help release the juices. Leave the slices on your skin for at least ten minutes. If you do this on a daily basis, you will notice a definite reduction in a week or two.

10. Castor oil
Both castor oil and Vitamin E oil can work to remove blemishes. At bedtime, wash your face with soap and water and rinse well. Dry your face with a towel. Apply the chosen oil to your freckles and let it soak in for ten minutes before you head to bed. In the morning, you can wipe the oil away and rinse your face. Don’t apply anything else, for best results. Repeat until your freckles have faded away.

Everyone has a home remedy for eliminating blemishes. You can either treat them yourself or see a dermatologist for a more serious method. While the harsher techniques will work faster, many of the home remedies are also very effective over time.
