2. Lettuce
Typically lettuce grows in compact small bundles, so I think it’s not difficult to keep a few pots of it in your sunroom or kitchen. I love mixing different varieties of lettuce in the same pot. For instance, I mix spinach with arugula. You can also buy mixed greens and plant them in a big pot. One of the best things about lettuce is that it can regenerate so feel free to snip it for your healthy salad.

3. Beans and peas
Bean and pea plants are not big and it’s easy to grow them in the house. You can grow them up in your sunroom, and when summer comes move them outdoors. Don’t forget to set up the trellis. The awesome thing about carrots is that you can grow them year round. Just make sure you keep the containers in a warm area. You can also grow carrots in troughs.

5. Potatoes
Potatoes are probably my favorite vegetable I grow indoors. It’s not hard to grow potatoes in buckets or large pots in your house. But, it’s better to seed them in the containers, and when the weather gets warmer replant your potatoes outdoors. I suggest trying different kinds of potatoes to jazz up your favorite recipes.

6. Tomatoes
Tomatoes are another great vegetable you can grow indoors, especially if your windows are sunny and they face south. Opt for smaller varieties, such as cherry, pear or grape tomatoes that will not take up much space as traditional tomatoes. Since tomatoes like sun and warmth, make sure your kitchen or sunroom is always warm.

7. Green onions
Green onions are rich in beta-carotene, zeaxanthin and lutein and they are one of the best foods to eat every day. Save the white ends with the hairs on the end and plant them into a little pot. 7 Tips on How to Take Care of Dry Skin

Looking for ways to take care of dry skin? I’ve got some tried and tested ways that work like a charm. I have dry skin and I know how it’s difficult to take care of it. But by now, I have worked out some ways to treat my problem skin to avoid dryness, redness and discomfort. You need to take care of your skin in order to keep it perfect, right? Follow these tips and don’t forget to share yours in the comments section.

1. Keep the air in your room moist
The first rule of a healthy skin is moist air in your apartment. The great thing that will help you to moisturize air in your room is a vaporizer. It is easy to use, you need just plug it in the room and it will do the entire job. Don’t forget to clean and fill the reservoir when necessary to prevent mold from appearing. Thus you will keep air in the room moist and it will be very good for your skin and for the health of your body in general.

2. Products to care for your skin
If you use soap with the smell of fruits or flowers, beware, you may affect your dry skin without knowing it. It means that chemicals have been added to make these products to smell good. Such chemicals can dry your skin badly. So my advice is to choose natural products to care for your skin. They will moisturize your dry skin since they contain no chemicals to dry it.

3. Use oils
There is the perfect thing that can moisturize your skin very well. I’m speaking about oil. You may know that different natural oils are used in cosmetic products you are using to care for your skin. But do you know that you can use any natural oil as it is? Choose any oil you like, there is wide variety of them. The most common is the olive oil, but you may find that coconut or rose petals oil is more to your liking. Just rub the oil into dry parts of your skin and you will see the results in no time.

4. Use lotion on damp skin
Treating you dry skin with lotion whenever needed is a very good idea. But it will be way much better if you apply your favorite lotion to the damp skin. Put it on after the shower and when your skin is a bit dump and it will absorb the lotion deeper. This will make it easier for your lotion to cope with the dryness of your skin. And you won’t have to worry about discomfort that dryness brings.

5. Drink more
There is nothing that can hydrate your body better than water. “Drink more water” – that is what you hear from everyone. Everybody, from famous dieting experts to your couch in your local gym advise you to drink more water as it is very good for your body. But you need to know that it is equally good to your skin too. Do you want to see your skin shining and hydrated? So, do drink more water!

6. Add fruits and vegetables to your diet
You heard a lot about benefits your body has from fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables full of vitamins and minerals, they contain antioxidants, and they are able to hydrate your skin. So, by adding fruits and vegetables to your eating plan you can keep your skin hydrated. Plus, you will get plenty of essential vitamins.

7. Reduce the temperature in your shower
You may like a hot water, but your dry skin won’t tell you ‘thank you.’ When a hot water runs over your skin, it sucks the moisture out of it, leaving you with dry, bright red skin. A lukewarm water is perfect for dry skin. I don’t also recommend using a cold water since it’s not good for your dry skin as well.

There are plenty of ways to care for your dry skin, but these are the most effective. How do you treat your dry skin?

7 Healthy Foods to Eat to Increase Your Vitamin E Intake

Your body needs vitamin E to work properly and it’s important to pay attention to your vitamin E intake on a regular basis. Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant, which helps combat free radical damage and prevent a great number of health issues, including heart disease and cancer. This nutrient also plays an important role in gene expression, cell health and immunity. The great news is that there are certain foods that help boost vitamin E intake. Without further ado, here are seven healthy foods you can eat to increase your vitamin E intake.

1. Kiwi
Kiwi contains around 10% of your daily requirements of vitamin E, and it’s also rich in fiber and vitamin C. Kiwis are sweet and tart at the same time and I usually have one kiwi for my breakfast with my favorite cereal. I also love adding sliced kiwis to my smoothies, fruit salad and Greek yogurt. I think kiwi is one of the best fruits to eat to increase vitamin E intake.

2. Sunflower seeds
Eating sunflowers seeds is one of the best and easiest ways to increase your vitamin E intake. An ounce of sunflower seeds contains over one-third of your daily requirements. Eat them plain or add some to your vegetable salad. Sunflower seeds also work well in trail mix combined with raisins, dried cereal and chocolate. Every time I go on a road trip, I always take a bag of sunflower seeds to boost my vitamin E intake.

3. Mangoes
Who doesn’t love mangoes? I’m sure most of you love this amazing fruit! Now that you know mangoes can help you increase your Vitamin E intake, you might love them even more. A ½ cup of chopped or diced mango contains about 5% of your daily Vitamin E needs. While it may not be enough to satisfy the whole day’s need, it’s definitely a great and tasty way to contribute. You can add mangoes to your yogurt, smoothies, or mix them with diced red onion, chopped jalapenos and avocado for a delicious salsa.

4. Tomatoes
Whether cooked or raw, tomatoes are also a good source of vitamin E. Again, eating tomatoes isn’t enough to satisfy your whole day’s quota, but still you can get a bit of essential vitamin. Put tomatoes on burgers and sandwiches, or add them to your vegetable salad. Whip up some spaghetti sauce or salsa or mix several tomatoes with fresh basil, mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar for a delicious side dish.

5. Almonds
Like sunflower seeds, almonds are a good source of Vitamin E. You can eat almonds as a snack or put some in your oatmeal, cereal or batch of muffins. Almonds are also a wonderful choice for your trail mix and plain yogurt with some fruits and honey. Since almonds have many calories, make sure you don’t consume pounds of them daily, or you could gain a few unwanted pounds.

6. Spinach
Another healthy food to eat to boost your vitamin E intake is spinach. Half a cup of spinach provides 10% of your daily vitamin E needs. You can use fresh spinach in your salad, vegetable soup or put spinach into your turkey sandwich. The options are endless. Spinach is low in calories, so you don’t have to worry about your weight.

7. Peanut butter
You know, seeds and nuts are great options for increasing vitamin E intake. Peanut butter is another great option because it works for numerous things. Spread peanut butter on toast at breakfast or eat a jelly and peanut butter sandwich for your lunch. You can also mix it with soy sauce and olive oil for a yummy peanut sauce on your favorite pasta. You may also like peanut butter on pancakes and waffles. If you don’t want to eat peanut butter, whole peanuts are the perfect choice too.

Add a few of these vitamin E rich foods to your diet to ensure you’re getting enough of this essential vitamin. What are your favorite foods on this list? What do you eat to boost your vitamin E intake?

7 Makeup Trends to Follow This Spring

Ladies, spring is here and it’s time to learn makeup trends to follow this season. Seeing the makeup trends yearly on the runway is so amazing. Sometimes the looks are extremely bright and meant to make a great impact while others are too dramatic and it seems impossible to wear such makeup. This spring, the bold looks make the makeup seem hard to wear, though there are a few makeup trends that are easy to follow. Read on.

1. Purple makeup
One of the biggest makeup trends to follow this spring is purple makeup. Lavender, lilac, and orchid are popular shades this season. Although I saw some girls wearing purple lipstick, I think the best way to follow this makeup trend is focusing on the eyes. You can use purple shadow for a dramatic smoky eye look, especially if you have those mysterious green eyes because purple makes green eyes even more beautiful. If you don’t like a smoky eye look, you can simply use purple eyeliner.

2. Orange lipstick
Yes, you read it right. Orange lipstick is a trend this spring. At first, I didn’t like this trend, but now I’m going to try it. It has a tropical and fun look that I like. Sure, I’m not going to wear the neon orange lipstick, which was shown on most runways, but if you are brave enough, you can give it a try. After all, it’s better to wear orange lipstick than the purple one, isn’t it?

3. Bold blue eyes
There are many ways to follow the bold blue eye trend. For a day look, you can choose blue eyeliner. For evening, you may want to wear bold blue eye shadow. Frankly speaking, this makeup trend isn’t for me since I go for more natural shadows, but I’m pretty sure many of you would like to try this trend this season.

4. Bold liner
Since I’m not good at applying liner, I find this trend very intimidating. But, I like it and I’m going to practice applying liner in bold and thick strokes. To follow this makeup trend, you’ll need jet black liner, and make sure you keep the rest of your makeup as simple as possible – no orange and purple lips here.

5. Natural look
The natural look is my favorite trend and it’s one of the hottest makeup trends for spring 2014. For this trend, you will need a good foundation to even out your complexion, blush and brown mascara. You will look like you don’t have any makeup on. One of the best things about this makeup trend is that it will not take long to apply it, which is perfect for women with super busy schedules.

6. Gold makeup
It’s not a secret that gold tones look great on every woman, which is why gold makeup is in vogue this spring. If you decide to follow this makeup trend, choose anything from bronzed skin to apricot blush to gilded lids. I like using gold eye shadow, which adds lots of sparkle to my eyes and makes them pop.

7. White eyeliner
If kept simple, white liner looks very beautiful and feminine. One of the best ways to follow this trend is to apply white eyeliner on the inner corners of your lids with a V shape. It’ll make your eyes look a little bright without actually looking cold.

These are some of the biggest trends to follow this spring. I’m going to stick to the two trends – the orange lips and the purple eyes, and you? What spring makeup trends are you going to follow?

5 Ways to Start Eating Mindfully

Let’s be honest, everyone likes to eat and there’s nothing wrong with it. The key is to eat mindfully. I personally appreciate different textures and flavors and I love to try different meals no matter how many calories they contain. When I was younger, I used to eat a lot and I often ended up feeling terrible and what worse I was prone to weight gain.

I always had guilt about how much I ate and I could also feel physically uncomfortable at times. When I started my weight loss and healthy lifestyle journey, I was astonished at how terrible my eating plan was. Really, many people don’t pay attention to their diet, maybe because of the lack of time or just because they don’t think their diet is not healthy.

From personal experience I have learned that it’s not only important to pay attention to what you are eating, but it’s also important to pay attention to how your body feels after eating and how you actually feel about your body. If you feel like you don’t eat mindfully, let me help you here. Follow these 5 tips and you will start eating consciously on a daily basis.

1. Realize that food is a great source of energy
When people are trying to lose weight and they realize that they don’t eat consciously, unfortunately, they start feeling bad about eating and some people even stop eating. This is the biggest mistake we can make. We need to eat to survive, so never feel bad about it.

One of the most important things you should realize is that food is an excellent source of energy, which you should use. If you workout on a regular basis, your digestion will certainly improve. Even if it’s just a short stroll after or before a meal, it will help increase circulation and boost your metabolism.

2. Be thankful for your food
It may sound a bit silly, but taking a moment to think about the person who cooked this meal, or where your food came from, can give you a completely new perspective and help you be thankful for meal you are going to eat. We often eat in a hurry and this is one of the reasons why you overeat and why your diet isn’t working for you. Before you start eating, bless your food and know that you are lucky enough to have this meal.

3. Use small plates
This is actually an old trick that I learnt from my mom. Using smaller plates is one of the most effective ways to eat mindfully. The point is, your stomach can fit and digest the amount of meal no bigger than that can fit in the palms of two hands.

Often, the portion you eat, especially at cafes and restaurants, is too big and it’s important to realize it. To control your portion, choose a smaller salad plate or a smaller bowl and eat the amount of food that you need. This way, you will never overeat.

4. Eat slowly and chew your food carefully
Numerous studies show that people who eat slowly and chew their food thoroughly, tend to eat less. The thing is, it takes a little time for the stomach to send messages to the brain that it’s full. So slow down when you eat and chew your food thoroughly. Not only does it help you eat less, it also makes less work for the digestive system. You will feel fuller quicker and it will help prevent a stomach ache.

5. Take breaks
Even if you’re hungry and you want to eat more, take little breaks while eating. Stand up for a moment and see how you feel. Maybe you want to drink a glass of water. Many of us mistake thirst for hunger, so try to drink a glass of water before or after your meal and see how you feel. This is an important step to eating mindfully.

I hope these tips will help you to eat mindfully and reach your weight loss goal. At first, these tips may seem simple and small, but remember the little things can make a huge difference. Enjoy your meal, eat what you want, but make sure you do it in moderation. So, did you find these tips and the whole article helpful?
