10 Classic Makeup Looks to Try

Awesome makeup is often inspired by the classics. Beauties like Elizabeth Taylor and Brigitte Bardot had very different looks, but they still inspire beauty tips today. You can get these classic looks and more with just a few simple changes to your makeup routine.

1. 60’s Bombshell
Use a large curling iron to add texture to hair and give it a tousled look. The focus is on the eyes here, so go heavy on the eyeliner and mascara. Use a Q-tip to smudge the eyeliner. Honey is one of the most wonderful foods in nature and there are many great ways to use it. I’m a huge honey lover. I enjoy honey in my tea, smoothies, and drizzled on top of peanut butter on toast. Recently I’ve decided to learn more about different uses of honey. I was surprised to find out that there are so many unusual ways to use this healthy food. 1. An ideal moisturizer
Natural moisturizers are healthy for our skin, and honey turned out to be one of the best choices. Just warm a little bit of honey in a pan until it gets liquid and add some herbs such as lavender. The proportion is one tablespoon of herbs per 8 ounces of honey. After you do that, it should stay closed for a week. Then add 1 teaspoon of already made substance into an 8 ounce bottle of unscented lotion. Enjoy it!

2. A perfect conditioner
I was pleasantly surprised to find out that honey makes an effective conditioner as well. It may be used instead of your regular conditioner but also as an additional element to intensify its properties. There are many options. Sweet Dreams: 8 Most Common Dreams and Their Meanings

Not always sweet, but nightmares are also needed to shake up our sleep routines. People all over the world see the similar dreams again and again and have no clue what they’re trying to tell us. Sometimes, the dreams have no sense at all, but still some types of dreams are the warning signs. You don’t necessarily have to be obsessed with your dreams, though. Just keep in mind the meaning of some of the most common dreams we all have every now and then and know what to expect every time you have them.

1. Flying

When I was a child and had this dream, my mom told me, “It’s a good dream that means you will grow tall, healthy and beautiful.” Of course, it was a simple, little fairytale, but her words helped me to stop dreading the dreams. If you have a dream where you fly, don’t worry, it means you need to add more freedom to your lifestyle. Whether you work hard without breaks or you stay in an unhealthy relationship, pay attention to this signal the universe sends you and reconsider your life. In many dream books, flying also means success. If you are working on a big project, and had this dream, you will most likely succeed in it.

When I was 12, I had the dream about my mom’s death – my hands are still shaking as I write about this. It’s was a true nightmare. I was so scared. Of course, I spent a lot of time looking for a real meaning of this dream. 6. Chasing

The chase dream has many meanings. Dreaming about being chased means that you run away from your fears and problems and try to forget about them. Sweet Potato Power Book Review

I recently read Sweet Potato Power by Ashley Tudor and I admit that at first, I was somewhat skeptical of a 250+ page book completely about sweet potatoes, but Ashley did a great job.

While this book definitely has some great sweet potato recipes, it also has an easy-to-understand explanation of why a grain free diet is helpful and why sweet potatoes are an exceptional carb source for those of us who are grain free.

This book would be especially beneficial for athletes who feel that they need the additional carbs for the activity level but don’t want to get them from grains or processed foods. Ashley even includes recipes for natural sweet potato based sports drinks.

Sweet Potato Power also has a wonderful and easy to understand explanation of the body’s hormone systems and why excess carbs can damage proper hormone levels.

Ashley does a great job of addressing the importance of sleep and how stressors such as lack of sleep or harmful foods can cause chronic inflammation throughout the body. I was impressed with the way she explained how over-exercising can cause as much stress as not exercising at all.

What Is Best for YOUR Body

One of my favorite parts of this book is how it breaks down how while each of our bodies is very different, there are still substances (grains, sugars, etc.) that are not good for anyone. Sweet Potato Power gives great resources of figuring out what method is right for your body within the healthy eating framework.

A sweet finish

For the first time an Indian origin chocolate, Earth Loaf, has won top honours at The Guild of Fine Food UK

It may seem like a somewhat outlandish combination. The bitter notes of coffee tempered by the sour-sweetness of pineapple and held together by swirls of gloriously smooth dark chocolate. But the blend works, and very well, if the jury of the prestigious Great Taste awards is to be believed. A Tokai Coffee & Pineapple Chocolate Bar created by the Mysuru-based Earth Loaf Artisan Chocolate has just won this coveted food award.

David Belo, the man behind Earth Loaf, says that an earlier stint as a bartender in the UK helped conceptualise this bizarrely delicious medley. “I knew that the flavours would work very well. This is a reinterpretation of a drink I once made,” says Belo, whose Earth Loaf won not one but two awards this year (the second was for the brand’s 72% Keralan Single Origin Chocolate Bar) with judges proclaiming both chocolates “simply delicious”.

This is the first time Indian origin chocolate has won this award, and Belo admits to being “over the moon” about it. “Winning a great taste award from The Guild of Fine Food UK definitely attributes a certain credibility to what we’re doing, and will only go on to put Indian origin chocolate on the international map, as we expand our retail network,” he says.

Belo wears many hats: food and beverage has festooned most of them. He has worked as a cocktail bartender in London for around a decade, before retraining as a pastry chef. Earth Loaf began as a bakery in London, and while they did do some chocolate confectionery, that was not the primary product.

In 2011, he shut shop and moved to Mysuru, India, with his partner Angelika Anagnostou, who wanted to study Ashtanga yoga there. And they liked it so much that they decided to stay.

When Earth Loaf was started, in 2012, “there weren’t people doing good quality chocolate from Indian cacao,” says Belo. He set out to change that. “Asian cacao, and Indian cacao in particular, tends to be brighter with more acidity and spice, compared to African, which has deeper cocoa notes and is more nutty, or South and Central American which is more fruity and floral,” says Belo.

He tries to retain those flavours by processing the way he does, “cold-processing” the bean instead of roasting it. “We omit the step of roasting our cacao, keep processing temperatures under 55 degrees C, preserving all the enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants naturally found in cacao,” he says. Belo’s version of chocolate is a far cry from commercially available chocolate made from a hodgepodge of cacao beans sourced from all over the country, into which is added plenty of sugar, milk, emulsifier and vegetable fat.


Working closely with farmers to ensure high-quality, single-origin, often single-estate beans (even learning Kannada in the process), Belo also closely monitors the fermentation and drying process. “We’ve got a lot of innovation about to start both at the farms and in the workshop. I think what’s next for us is to go from what’s effectively been a chocolate lab, to a well-grounded cottage industry, with better retail availability both nationally and abroad,” he says.

Belo has a 100% Indian-only sourcing policy: this ensures that not only does the company support agriculture economically, but also helps re-imagine the wealth of ingredients in India. Most of Belo’s chocolates — organic, vegan and lightly sweetened with coconut sugar — are paired with interesting flavours and things unique to the country. Think dried apricots, nuts, gondhoraj lemon and jamun melded into the base chocolate.

Talking about the combinations he chooses, “I’ve chosen unconventional combinations, in part due to my years of mixing cocktails, and the borrowing that comes from that repertoire, but also because all chocolate inclusions historically reflected the produce of the country in question,” he says. Milk chocolate was invented in Switzerland, a big dairy-producing country, for instance, while Ferrero Rocher was invented in Italy, a nation abundant with hazelnuts, “So surely, it’s just as natural for me to season our chocolate with gondhoraj lemon or Ladakhi apricots?” he says.

Sweet Salt Texturizing Spray for Hair

I’ve shared my natural hair spray recipe and my Beach Waves Sea Salt Spray before. I like both of them but wondered if I could combine them to make one everyday hair product.

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Turns out, combining these two recipes is not only possible, but awesome.

I have naturally baby-fine hair and even though it is naturally wavy, it doesn’t naturally hold style well. My hair is also long and blonde, so it gets easily weighed down and looks dirty if I put certain hair products in it.

I stumbled upon my beach waves spray and homemade hair spray when looking for natural hair products that would give my hair some body without weighing it down or making it look greasy.

This texturizing spray combines the texturizing ability of my original sea spray with the extra hold of my homemade hair spray for a long-lasting texturizing spray. (It is what I used to style my hair for this picture)

I also added essential oils to this recipe for scent and to stimulate hair growth. I spend a lot of time outside in the summer, and these oils help protect hair and encourage new hair growth.

Natural Texturizing Spray

This spray is incredibly inexpensive and simple to make and it has worked better on my hair than any store-bought product I’ve ever tried. In fact, even if you buy a top of the line glass spray bottle to use for this recipe (which can be re-used many times) and use all of the optional ingredients, this 8 ounce recipe still costs much less than a 4-ounce bottle of Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray, which is one of the few conventional products that I’ve ever really liked.

NOTE: I’ve gotten a lot of questions about the glass spray bottle in the picture above. I got it on Zulily and it is sometimes in stock but can be hard to find. I also recently tried this glass spray bottleand like it better since it can spray a fine mist or a thicker spray. Another option is to use an old apple cider vinegar bottle and just replace the top with a regular spray bottle top.

Texturizing Spray Ingredients

1 cup distilled water, heated but not boiling
1 Tablespoon Epsom Salt
1 Tablespoon Organic White Sugar
1 teaspoon Spiced Rum (optional- to help preserve and avoid sticking)
10 drops Lavender Essential Oil (optional)
10 drops Lemon Essential Oil (optional)
10 drops Clary Sage Essential Oil (optional)
5 drops Rosemary Essential Oil (optional)
1 teaspoon of Coconut Conditioner (optional but can help prevent the bottle sticking. Adding conditioner will not work for all hair types and will make the spray thicker. If you don’t want to use conditioner, you can just soak the spray top in hot water to dissolve the sugar/salt if it ever sticks)
How to Make Texturizing Spray

These directions get pretty complicated, so bear with me… Just kidding! This recipe is incredibly easy to make so don’t blink or you might miss the directions.

Pour the hot water in to the glass spray bottle.

Add all of the other ingredients.

Shake until ingredients are dissolved.

How To Use Texturizing Spray

Spray into dry hair and scrunch until the spray dries.

For extra volume, use a curling iron to loosely curl 1 inch sections of hair and scrunch again.

TIP: For easy morning hair, braid dry hair in to a french braid (or french braid pigtails) at night and spray with this spray. In the morning, use dry shampoo if needed and unbraid hair. Re-spray and scrunch for all-day texture and waves.

Loaded Sweet Potato Soup

I used to love making potato soup, clam chowder and other potato based soups and stews. Now that we don’t eat white potatoes very often, I hadn’t made any of them in years. I found my old recipe when I was cleaning out my cabinets, and decided to try a sweet potato version.

I used winter squash to take the sweetness down a notch, and the sweet and salty flavors in this soup go really well together. If you are a potato soup person, try it!

Loaded Sweet Potato Soup

A filling and nutritious sweet potato based soup.


1 medium to large winter squash or pumpkin
3-4 medium sweet potatoes
1/4 cup of coconut oil or butter
2 onions
1 quart chicken broth or stock (homemade if possible)
2 cups coconut milk (or water)
1 pound of meat of choice: leftover chicken, sausage, ground beef or bacon all work
Optional garnishes: crumbled bacon, cheese, chopped green onions

Peel and chop the squash and sweet potatoes.
In a large pot, boil at least 2 quarts of water and add the chopped squash and sweet potatoes. Cook until fork tender and remove.
Let cool slightly. Using a blender, hand blender of food processor, blend half of the cooked squash/sweet potatoes with the broth, coconut milk and spices until smooth and return it to the pot.
Add the other half of the cooked squash/sweet potatoes.
In a large skillet, brown the meat you are using if not already cooked (I like ground sausage) and add to pot when cooked.
Thinly slice onions and cook in the skillet with coconut oil or butter if needed until soft. Add to pot.
Cook bacon in skillet if using for a garnish.
Heat pot on low heat until ingredients are mixed and warmed.
Serve with optional garnishes (crumbled bacon, cheese, green onions, etc) and a side salad.

Savory Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

These sweet potato fries are a kid-approved substitute for regular fries or potato products, and they are packed with nutrition. A kid favorite at our house, the kids often help slice these or cut them in to crinkle cut chips before baking.

They are easy and fast to make and go with a lot of different meals. Sweet potatoes are considered more nutrient rich than regular potatoes and the sweetness of the sweet potatoes pairs perfectly with seal salt and pepper for a sweet and salty treat.

I serve these with homemade ketchup or mayo.

Savory Sweet Potato Fries Recipe

Savory sweet potato fries baked with coconut oil, salt, garlic, basil and other spices.


2-3 large sweet potatoes, sliced into thin strips
1/4 cup olive oil or melted coconut oil
Spices of choice (I use: garlic, sea salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and thyme)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
Put olive oil and spices in small bowl and mix well.
Slice sweet potatoes and put on large baking sheet (or two if you are making a lot).
Pour oil over the fries and toss by hand until evenly coated- this will also coat the baking sheet.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or more until slightly browned and tender.
Serve with homemade ketchup or mayo (It is a French thing!).
