7 Helpful Tips on How to Manage Jealousy

If you want to build a relationship with someone you love, sooner or later you’ll have to deal with jealousy. Sometimes you can even be happy to see that your partner is jealous, because that means he loves you very much and he doesn’t want to share you with someone else. Perhaps you are an extremely jealous person. Then you should certainly find efficient ways to settle down and manage your emotions. Otherwise your jealousy will only damage your relationship. That’s why you need to be reasonable and wise. The tips below will help you to cope with your excessive jealousy.

1. You Should Be Reasonable
First of all, a person who is always jealous should try to clear up if there are any reasons for such behavior. Consider all the things that spark your jealousy. Maybe they are not worth being paid much attention to. You need some time to understand what the problem is. It may take you from a few hours to several days. Having discovered that your jealousy is not reasonable, you should note it down in order to recollect it next time when you can’t control your feelings.

2. Trust Your Man
Surely, you would be nervous and angry to see another girl flirting with your guy. I should say it is really an unpleasant situation. Some girls can be too active and even chase your boyfriend insistently. Though, that is not a reason for you to get upset. Try to focus on the positive side of this problem. It is great that your man attracts attention of others. Aren’t you happy to realize that you have a handsome and attractive guy? Bear in mind that just your trust will help you to build a strong and lasting relationship. It’s impossible to control your man all the time, so you should keep calm and trust him.

3. Identify Insecurities
In most cases our jealousy starts from insecurities. If you think that those women who surround your partner, either his colleagues or his friends, are more beautiful and slimmer than you, then the feeling of jealousy will drive you crazy. Whenever you feel jealous of some girl who is near your man, you should find out insecurities and concentrate on your strong points that make you a unique person. I would advise you to be more confident about yourself and never let your emotions prevail over common sense.

4. Forget the Past
When it comes to relationships with men, our previous experience may be useful for us, even if it was unpleasant and we have only bad memories about it. We should take into consideration certain mistakes that were made and not to repeat them in future. Nevertheless, when you meet with a new man and you really love him, you shouldn’t let your past influence your relationship with him. For example, if your ex has cheated on you, don’t be obsessed with thoughts that a new boyfriend can do the same. Actually, all people are different and not everyone behaves badly. The best way to be happy with your man is to let go of the past and enjoy what you have now.

5. Spend More Time Together
There are lots of couples that can’t spend much time together due to some circumstances. For instance, you may work away, study in another city or simply you have a job that requires a lot of time. Being unable to see each other often, young people start arguing. Usually jealousy is the main reason of their misunderstanding. In spite of all the work you have to do, try to spend more time with your sweetheart and appreciate every moment of your love and happiness. Undoubtedly, it will improve your relationship.

6. Ditch Social Media
Maybe it sounds a bit strange but for most people social media is the major source of jealousy. I have plenty of friends who always suspect their partners of communicating with others through social media. To avoid numerous problems and quarrels you’d better ditch social networks. By doing this you will definitely strengthen your relationship with the one you love. After all, there is a wide range of other ways to keep in touch with your friends and relatives.

7. Clarify the Situation
Stressful situations and misunderstanding are an indispensable part of every couple’s relationship. The point is how often these situations happen. If you frequently see that your guy behaves oddly and you can notice clear signs of cheating, it is necessary to discuss the problem with your partner and clear up its reasons. Possibly, there is no need for you to worry about his behavior and you will come to a common agreement. Clarifying the situation is a wonderful way to stop your jealousy.

In conclusion I would like to say that jealousy is one of those factors that can ruin your relationship, especially if this feeling is uncontrolled. Thus, you should learn to manage your emotions and feelings. Remember that you should be patient and think thoroughly before you start arguing with your man. Are you a jealous person? Do you often have quarrels with your partner because of jealousy? How do you usually cope with the problem?

8 Worst Habits of Unhappy People and How to Break Them

Everyone wants and deserves to be happy, but not everyone understands what happiness is. Happiness lies in the heart and it always comes from the inside, not the outside. Unfortunately, many people believe money brings happiness and they are trying to earn more money in order to be happy.

This actually is one of the biggest mistakes unhappy people make. I know it’s hard to believe but a lot of wealthy people are unhappy because happy people have good habits that improve their lives and their aim is not to make a lot of money, their aim is to live a happy and fulfilled life.

Apart from money, unhappy people have a few other bad habits that they need to break to live a happy life. You might say that there are times when it’s impossible to smile and enjoy life. Yes, I agree. Everyone experiences unhappy times every now and then, but a large part of unhappiness comes from our own behavior, thinking, and habits.

Just like Elbert Hubbard once said, “Happiness is a habit – cultivate it.” Stop making any excuses on why things are not working out for you and why you are unhappy – you are the only person who is in charge of your own happiness. Read on to discover 8 worst habits of unhappy people and a few effective tips on how to break them.

1. Dwelling on the past and dreaming about the future too much
Dwelling on the past and reliving all your failures, painful memories and conflicts can hold you back from moving on with life. Dreaming too much about the future is never a good thing too. We often imagine how things could go wrong in our relationships, at work or with our health and it builds into appalling scenarios playing over and over in the head.

This is an unhealthy habit that we should break no matter how hard it is. Dwelling on the past and dreaming about the future can lead to missing out on plenty of amazing experiences. Start living in the present if you want to be happy.

How to break this bad habit:

We all think about the future or the past on occasion, and it’s not a bad habit unless you dwell on it too much. It’s important to learn from your past and plan for tomorrow or next year, but make sure you spend more of your time in the present. Focus on your current activity and think of the problems you have now.

Stop worrying about tomorrow – it’s going to happen whether you worry about it or not. Forgive all past mistakes, failures, and hurts, they won’t help you in the future. Next time you dwell on your past or dream about the future, sit still, take a few deep breaths, and take in what is all around you with all your senses for a while.

I also like to take a short walk and enjoy nature. It reminds me that I live in the present moment. Don’t let yourself dwell on the unhappy past, live your life now and meet any challenge with a smile.

2. Overcomplicating things
Overcomplicating life is becoming a habit these days. But I think life is too complicated to make it more complicated. While life can create unhappiness, it’s often created by us. Stop overcomplicating things and try to develop new habits that will help to make your life simpler. Life isn’t easy, but it doesn’t have to be as challenging as most of us make it.

How to break this bad habit:

Avoid multitasking and do one thing at a time during your day. Make a small to-do list with 3-4 important things and write down your most important goals on a whiteboard that you’ll see daily. This will help you to accomplish the most important tasks on time and reach your goals faster.

Another thing to do to break the habit of overcomplicating life is to get rid of the things you don’t need anymore – give them away or throw them away. Having too much stuff means throwing away your precious time and it can prevent you from doing more useful things.

People who have a habit of overcomplicating life have many problems in the relationships. That’s because they spend too much time thinking about the past or the future and creating new problems. The best way to reduce misunderstandings and conflicts in any relationship is to communicate and ask questions. Don’t create problems that don’t even exist and don’t waste your time and energy being upset about them.

If you have a super busy schedule and it seems impossible to simplify your life, I’ve got some recommendations for you. First of all, try to spend less energy and time on your email inbox – check it once a day and write shorter emails. Make a short to-do list every day and make sure you set realistic goals.

It’s easy to get stressed out when you have a busy schedule and plenty of things to do. Take a few short breaks throughout the day and make sure you eat healthy. Also, make time to exercise (I recommend you to work out in the morning) since it helps reduce and manage stress levels. It might be a bit overwhelming at first, but good time management is a sure way to simplify life.

3. Striving for perfection
Happiness has nothing to do with making everything perfect. There’s nothing perfect in the world so striving for perfection is just a waste of time and energy. I learned this lesson a few years ago. I was trying to make everything perfect but no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t be perfect all the time. I realized I had to break this habit when I started to feel miserable and completely unhappy.

Striving for perfection is harming your mind and it usually leads to low self-esteem, constant self-criticism and feeling that you’re not good enough, even if you have great results. If you are a chronic perfectionist you should realize it and break this habit because it may be the main reason why you are unhappy. Here are a few effective ways to overcome perfectionism.

4. Focusing on the negative things in life
Seeing only the negative side of every situation and dwelling on it is a sure way to be unhappy in life. There’s always a positive side of every situation, even the worst one, and it’s always possible to turn a negative situation into a positive one. Both happy and unhappy people have problems. The difference is the way they solve those problems.

How to break this bad habit:

I can tell you from my experience that it’s hard to break this habit and you will need a lot of patience. If you are a chronic perfectionist, you should break this habit first. Once you kick that habit, start breaking the habit of focusing on the negative things in life. Learn to see both the negative and the positive sides of any situation you are in and accept things as they are.

If you can change something, do it. If you can’t, let go mentally and emotionally of what is negative and don’t dwell on it. Whining about the negative detail is just a waste of time. Every time I’m in a difficult situation, I always think of the ways to turn a negative into a positive because only then I can think clearly how to solve the problem.

5. Being dragged down by negative voices
It actually goes hand in hand with focusing on the negative things in life, so if you have this habit, you need to break it today. Who you socialize with, what you watch, read and listen to have a huge impact on how you think and feel. You will never be happy if you live in a sea of negative voices, which tell you that life will always be filled with limits and it will be unsafe and unhappy.

In order to break this bad habit, you need to replace those negative voices with positive ones. Avoid negative people and surround yourself with positive people who make you smile and happy. Don’t start your day with watching the morning news or reading the paper. Instead, listen to the inspiring music or read some inspiring books.

6. Comparing yourself to others
Comparing yourself to others is one of the worst habits that most people have these days. We often compare jobs, houses, cars, relationships, money, clothes and many other things. We get upset about someone else’s success and many of us end up living someone else’s life. Comparing what you have in life to what other people have is a sure way to make yourself unhappy.

Have you ever tried to compare yourself to yourself? Sounds strange, right? But it’s actually the key to success and a happy life. See what you’ve achieved, how much you’ve grown, and what you’ve made to reach your goals. You can even have a special journal where you write down your goals and your progress in reaching them.

This way, you won’t have time to think of other people and their success. You will learn to love and appreciate yourself and what you have in life. Check out the article How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Other People that will help you to overcome the habit of comparing yourself to others and will help you live a happier life.

7. Limiting life
If you hold yourself back and you don’t live your life to the fullest because you’re afraid what others may say or think if you do something new or different, you need to break a habit of limiting your life. There’s nothing wrong with trying new things and everyone is unique in their own way.

Unhappy people think that they know how others see them and what think about them. Stop caring about what other people think and start living your own life and doing things you like. Never take criticism as a personal attack and let go of negativity. In fact, other people don’t care about what you say and do.

They have their own problems and fears and they worry about their own lives. Instead of thinking about your flaws and fearing what everyone thinks of you, focus on the people around you. Be kind and polite. Help people in need and it will help you boost your self-esteem and improve yourself.

8. Focusing too much on money
While it’s okay to focus on making money, saving and buying a lot of expensive things, if you do it all the time, it can make you miserable. Unfortunately, most of us have this bad habit without realizing it. We believe money can do everything and we stop being thankful for what we have in life. Both rich people and poor people can be happy and unhappy.

I know a couple of rich people who have everything they want, but they don’t have one of the most important things in life – happiness. I also have a few friends who don’t make a lot of money, but they are always positive and they really enjoy their happy life. Zig Ziglar once said, “Money won’t make you happy, but everybody wants to find out for themselves.”

It’s just an illusion that money will bring you happiness. Stop focusing too much on the money. Embrace all your daily blessings and be thankful for everything you have in life.

It’s not difficult to be happy, you just need to want it. Try to break these worst habits no matter how hard it will be. But make sure you really overcome your bad habits, because sometimes people don’t break their bad habits, they simply replace them with the new ones.

Cultivate your happiness and live your life to the fullest and without regrets. “Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination.” – Roy Goodman. Do you have any bad habits of unhappy people?

7 Tips on How to Love Again after a Painful Breakup

It can be difficult to love someone again after a painful breakup or divorce, but it’s possible. You might feel fearful, insecure and distrusting, but it’s common and you can overcome everything if you don’t dwell on your past. So, if you’re trying to recover from a breakup, here are a few tips on how to learn to love again.

1. Muse on your past relationship
Although it’s hard and painful to reflect on the memories of your past relationship, it’s really necessary. A failed relationship can teach you many things about yourself and what you want in your next partner. This will help to make your next relationship better. This is also one of the first steps to letting go of your past relationship.

2. Let go of the past
You’ve already reflected on your past relationship, so now it’s time to let go of it. When a relationship ends, many of us are at a standstill because we can’t let go of the past. Just because your past relationship failed doesn’t mean that your new relationship will fail as well. Don’t dwell on your past, forgive your ex or yourself for anything that he or you did, and move on.

3. Love yourself
If your ex initiated the breakup, your ego may be still hurt. One of the most important ways to love again after a painful breakup is to love yourself first. Think about your emotional needs, those wonderful things you enjoy doing in your free time, and your major goals. Take care of yourself, because you really deserve it

4. Go slow
While it takes some time to get over the pain of a failed relationship, your heart will eventually heal and you will want to find your love again. Even if you think you’re ready to enter the dating world, it’s better to go slow. Don’t rush into a relationship, just enjoy the company of your friends, meet new people and make new friends.

5. Enjoy your single life
It’s important to learn how to enjoy a single life. Since you don’t have a partner, you have more time and freedom to do what you want like hang out with friends or family. It’s also the perfect time to do those things you’ve never had enough time to do. Now, you have more freedom to make new friendships. Pursue activities you enjoy, meet people who share your interests and surround yourself with positive things. You know, relationships come and go, but friends will always be there for you.

6. Realize that love is a risk
It’s important for you to realize that love can be a risky ordeal. Sure, you don’t want to get hurt again, so you put walls around your heart to protect it, but do you really want to be single for the rest of your life? It’s frustrating when a relationship fails but once you’re able to get over the pain, you will find your love.

7. Enter a new relationship
Once you start a new relationship, make sure you forget about your old one. Never compare your new boyfriend with your ex. Don’t bring emotional baggage from a past relationship into the current one since it’s a fast way to doom it. Also, don’t assume your partner is going to cheat on you as your ex-boyfriend did. You should trust your significant other.

It’s okay to be hesitant about entering a new relationship again after a painful breakup, but I hope these tips will help you. Do you have any other tips? Share them please.

9 Reasons I Never Argue with People

Everybody, from children to colleagues, gets angry and argues from time to time. Even though the temptation to prove that you’re right and win the argument is overwhelming, I rarely argue with people. In most cases arguments and disputes lead to nowhere and perpetuate the conflict. When the argument begins, both parties just get more irritated and chances are that people will never reach a compromise. It’s always much wiser to stay out of an argument or just stop a squabble before it begins. Read on to find out 9 undeniable reasons why I never argue with people.

1. Arguing reinforces the conflict
Arguments never help people to solve a problem or reach a compromise. Arguments always implicate tension and reciprocal irritation, which aggravates misunderstanding between the parties and turn things into great problems. We should use our words wisely and reasonably to avoid criticism and offences. Try to take control over your emotions and turn the dispute into a constructive, meaningful and intimate conversation.

2. You cannot argue about feelings
People cannot be right or wrong if they feel this way or another. My feelings and thoughts are exceptionally my own business. That’s why when someone is trying to say that my feelings are unreasonable or illogical or that I’m too sensitive, I just short-circuit the conversation or change the topic. I’ve learned to set personal boundaries and not to argue back.

3. I hate convincing people
In most cases the matter isn’t important enough and nothing will change no matter what the outcome of the dispute is. After all, people have a right to their own opinion, even if I don’t accept it. When I want to clear the situation or explain my point of view, I’m always ready for an open dialog. But when a discussion turns into an argument, people are unable to hear each other because they’re angry and defensive.

4. It’s no use to argue about the past
Whenever you argue with your spouse or mom or friends about the past, it’s always awfully toxic for your relationship. Women are eager to relate to the issues of previous years, which is completely wrong and dishonest. You cannot reproach people for what they did wrong months and years ago. Try to understand that what’s done is done and life goes on. Remember to touch upon the issues that happened within the previous several weeks only.

5. I can put myself in my opponent’s shoes
It really helps when you want to solve a problem and come to a conclusion. This method helps to see the situation from your opponent’s side and realize his motives. Moreover, it helps you to hear and understand your counterpart. Due to this trick most of my conflicts and arguments end up with calm discussions.

6. I prefer truth to being right
Sometimes I’m wrong and now I can admit it. But it took me many years to realize that being right and being the winner of the argument are different things. It’s very difficult to confess that you did something wrong or that you was mistaken. But I’ve learned to tame my pride and temper, which helps me to avoid many conflicts.

7. People’s imperfections are a normal thing
While some people are positive and peaceful by nature, others are rather aggressive and high conflict. I’ve noticed that I argue with certain people regardless the topic, my reasoning or their mood. There is no sense in fighting with people who are likely to argue against everything! To avoid disputes and arguments, try to limit your communication with high conflict people.

8. Uncontrolled arguing can quickly develop into insulting
When two parties are having a fierce argument, it’s very easy to lose control over emotions and start criticizing negatively their whole personalities. But whenever you have a conflict, you should speak only about the actual deeds and behavior, but not about the person in general. For example, your spouse forgets to take the leftovers and you say ‘You’re so messy and lazy!’ This is the quickest way to aggravate the clash and cause a breakdown in relationship. Most people tend to take things personally, that’s why be careful with your criticism.

9. I always draw a conclusion
I rarely argue with people who hurt my feelings. I just see no reason to clear up the situation or get offended, because I come to a certain conclusion and decide whether I want to continue our relationship or not. Try to realize that all the people you meet in your life are your teachers and you should be grateful for every lesson they teach you. Such an attitude helps me to avoid conflicts and stay in good relationship with most of the people around.

Controversies are like a war, but with words. Human relationships, however, aren’t about war; they are about cooperation and interaction. The desire to attack your opponent is sometimes irresistible, but you should always do your best to shift the dispute into an open and reasonable dialog.

8 Things Happy and Successful People Ignore

Everyone wants to be successful and happy these days, but there are so many things that prevent us from being happy. The truth is, we are the only ones that can decide whether to live a happy life or spend the life doing things that make us unhappy. You will never become successful if you don’t learn how to be happy. It’s hard to learn to ignore negativity, stereotypes, and naysayers, but it’s extremely important. Don’t be afraid to go against the grain to make a difference by doing things your own way. Here are a few things you should ignore if you want to be a happy and successful person.

1. The past
You can’t change your past, so there’s no sense in dwelling on it. Forget all your old troubles and mistakes. What’s done is done and you can’t change it, no matter how hard you try. In fact, our mistakes help us become stronger and wiser. We learn from them and we learn our weaknesses. Even the most stressful and tragic situations eventually teach you vital lessons that you never thought you’re going to learn. Just because you are not a successful person today doesn’t mean you will not be the one someday. You will be happy and successful – maybe not right now, but eventually. Just don’t give up and don’t let your past ruin your present.

2. The things they can’t control
Happy and successful people never force anything. They don’t hold themselves down with things they can’t control. Successful people never talk about the problem, they think about the solution. So if you have some problems, start thinking about the solutions. If you can’t change your current situation, let it be. Remember, changes happen for a reason. If it’s meant to be, it will be.

3. Other people’s opinions
It’s great to listen to people around you, but it doesn’t mean you should act up to their opinions. If you spend too much time thinking of everyone else’s perception of you and if you pay attention to everyone else’s judgment, you will eventually forget who you truly are. You know who you are, so don’t let the judgments of other people affect your life. Impress and inspire people around you and show them how happy and successful you are.

4. Impatient thoughts
Joyce Meyer once said, “Patience is not the ability to wait but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.” Patience allows you to stay focused, confidently taking one small step at a time. Every step you take, no matter how small, is a huge progress. Whether you’re working on getting a promotion, improving your health, or learning a new language, don’t expect instant results. Every change, big and small, takes patience and time. Ignore those impatient thoughts, focus on your goals, stay positive and you will definitely see your progress. Trust me, I know how it’s frustrating when the results don’t appear as fast as you’d hoped. But if you put in the work and have a little patience, you will achieve any goal, I promise!

5. Doubts
Successful people always believe in their capacity to succeed. They ignore all nagging doubts and keep a positive attitude no matter how bad things get. Even if you made many mistakes, you should still believe in yourself and your strength. Believe that your career is worth the efforts. Believe that people can be intelligent and foolish, generous and selfish, happy and stressed all at once. Believe that you are successful even if you don’t earn millions. Believe in your intuition when you should choose between something. Believe that your life is happy and it will bring you joy again and again. Believe in magic when it seems like there’s no way out of the situation you are in. Remember, belief is always better than doubt.

6. Inessential tasks
Successful people know when and how to say no. You are not superhuman – you can’t do everything and you can’t help everyone. You need to focus on your goals. Stop trying to do too much things at once. If you never say no, you will stress yourself out since you might fail to do everything at once. Don’t be afraid to say no more often. Sometimes we spend a lot of time on what is urgent and less time on what is important. Try to focus on more important things and it will certainly help you achieve success.

7. Everyday frustrations
Bad days are just bad days. They come and they go. Although you might feel overly stressed, try to ignore them. It’s much easier to enjoy your life when you stay positive even if you have a bad day. Unfortunately, we can’t avoid everyday frustrations. We fall, we rise, we make mistakes, we learn, and we live. We are all humans, we can’t be perfect. Practice gratitude daily and it will help you cope with the hard times. Realize that life is beautiful. Sometimes there’s sadness, but there are also plenty of beautiful things. Learn to ignore everyday frustrations even when it hurts, and you will see how happy and successful you are.

8. Fears
Often we don’t take risks because of fear of failing, judgment, or rejection. This is one of the main reasons why so many people are not successful these days. Successful people overcome their fears and they often take risks. In fact, almost everything in life is a risk, including just being alive. If you don’t take risks, you won’t grow and thrive and you won’t know what you are capable of. When you feel fear, doubt, frustration, or anxiety, know that you can fight it. Just focus on the possibilities, on the goodness and on your goals and you will feel much better in no time.

I know it’s much easier for me to tell you to ignore all these things. But success can’t be achieved without efforts. Sometimes you need to make a small change in your life in order to become happier. Which of the things above have you struggled with?

In 2015, it’s crucial to check your credit history every few months. If you’ve never done it before, the new year is the perfect time to start! You can get your credit report via phone or online. If you have any questions, check with your bank. Do it each year and you will begin the year knowing you don’t have any debts!

5. Check your documents
If you have many important documents on your laptop or computer, back them up and clean up your folders and desktop. Store the documents you need and delete the rest. Your working mindset and your computer will thank you. If you are going to travel in the new year, ensure that your passport and your visa are valid.

6. Check your closet
In 2015, you should check your closet every now and then in order to look gorgeous and fashionable. It doesn’t mean that you should spend a lot of money on trendy things, but going through your closet and pulling out all of the things you never wear are a wise way to kick off the new year! Moreover, it’s a good time to start thinking about the ways to store your winter clothes once summer comes. It seems ridiculous, but it will help you to save time and avoid stress.

7. Study
If you are in school or college, make sure you study hard, especially on the subjects in which you’re weak. This year, read more books, ask your teachers for help and you will surely succeed in your studies. It’s better to prepare for the next semester well in advance so that you can have some time for the parties as well.

8. Let go of the past
It’s important to let go of the past and live a happy life, and the new year is the right time to do so! Think about the past year, what you most enjoyed, what you did, realize what’s holding you back and try to change the situation. It can be hard but you should let go of any toxic relationships or toxic friends in 2015. Toxic relationships are extremely harmful to both your physical and mental health. Spend more time with positive people who make you smile and happy.

9. Travel
I think traveling is really important. When we travel, discover new places, we learn about new cultures, meet new people and learn that they actually aren’t so different from us. Traveling is also one of the best ways to make friends. You don’t need lots of money to travel. Although there are many ways to travel when you don’t have money, I prefer to save money or earn some extra cash.

As you see, there are a few important things to do in 2015. If you think 2014 was boring, do your best to make 2015 the best year ever. Even a few little changes can make this year happier and easier. What else are you going to do in the new year? Share your thoughts in the comments section, please.

7 Things You Don’t Have to Change about Your Life

Most people are not satisfied with their life and wish that it were different. However, there are several things that you shouldn’t want to change in your life, things that you have to appreciate. Your family, traits, and past mistakes are all those small things that make you who you’re. While it’s okay to dream about a different life, don’t try to change the following things in your life:

1. Childhood
No matter what your childhood was, you can’t change it now. The people you associated with and the town/city you grew up in helped shape you. If you grew up in a different city, you would be an absolutely different person. Don’t wish your childhood was different, you should love who you are and appreciate your childhood.

2. Family
Even if you don’t like your family, you should never wish that you had better parents. If your parents didn’t get together to have you, you would not be the person that you are now. Lineage is one of the major things we should never change because we can’t do this. If you don’t get along with your family, at least don’t hate them. Remember they gave you life and they are your parents.

3. Life
On tough days, you might think your life is miserable and you want to die. It happens at times, I know, but you must be alive. It can be difficult to remember how wonderful life is when everything goes wrong, but try to appreciate things you have. One of the biggest mistakes people make in life is wishing to die. Please don’t make this mistake and love your life no matter what.

4. Past
Your past cannot be change. You cannot change those terrible memories and those awful mistakes along with awkward situations. Since you cannot take your past back, you should learn to live with it. Sure, we don’t like mistakes, but we need them and we should learn from them to make our life better. Don’t focus on the things you regret, think of your present actions instead.

5. Intellect
It’s good to strive to get more knowledge. While you should be open to learning something new, don’t worry if you are struggling in your chemistry or calculus class. You might be better at learning new languages or sewing so focus on things you like and don’t worry if you can’t acquire more knowledge.

6. Your look
If you are not satisfied with your weight or hair color, you can change it. But, if you don’t like your skin color or height, you can’t change them so the only thing you have to do is to be proud of them. Sure, there are people who look beautiful and different than you, but you are special and beautiful in your own way. Appreciate what you look like and always love yourself.

7. Dreams
Even if your dreams are hard to reach, it doesn’t mean you should give up them and choose easier ones. If you really want something, you should go for it. Don’t force yourself to find a well-paid job, if you want to be a volunteer or an author. Yes, it’s easier to reach simple goals, but do you want it? Each challenge requires efforts, so be ready to put in your best ones.

Don’t waste your precious time trying to change these things. Love your parents, your friends, yourself and your enemies, and of course, love your life. Remember that there are certain things that no one can change. Embrace your mistakes and don’t be afraid to fail. Every time you make a mistake, there’s an essential lesson for you to learn. Do you agree with this list?

Social Media Boosts Remembrance Of Things Past

Marcel Proust’s madeleine cakes have nothing on Instagram and Twitter. But if they did, Proust’s memories could have been even more elaborate and vivid.

A new study – the first to look at social media’s effect on memory – suggests posting personal experiences on social media makes those events much easier to recall.

“If people want to remember personal experiences, the best way is to put them online,” said Qi Wang, the lead author of the study and professor of human development in the College of Human Ecology. “Social media – blogs, Facebook, Twitter, and others alike – provide an important outlet for us to recall memories, in the public space, and share with other people.”

Memory researchers have long known that when people write about personal experiences, reflect on them or talk about them with others, they tend to remember those events much better. “The process of writing about one’s experiences in the public sphere, often sustained by subsequent social feedback, may allow people to reflect on the experiences and their personal relevance,” the study said.

The act of posting on social media also plays a role in the construction of the self, said Wang, an expert in personal memory.

“We create a sense of self in the process of recalling, evaluating and sharing with others memories of personal experiences in our lives,” Wang said. “That’s happening when we use social media, without us even noticing it. We just think, ‘Oh, I’m sharing my experience with my friends.’ But by shaping the way we remember our experiences, it’s also shaping who we are.”

That’s especially facilitated by the interactive functions on many social media sites. For example, Facebook periodically shows users photos and posts from previous years to remind them of those events, prompting users to revisit those experiences.

“Memory is often selective. But in this case, the selection is not done by our own mind; it’s done by an outside resource,” Wang said. “So interactive functions on social networking sites can also shape how we view our experiences, how we view ourselves.”

Wang and her co-authors, Dasom Lee ’13, and Yubo Hou of Peking University, asked 66 Cornell undergraduates to keep a daily diary for a week. The study participants briefly described the events that happened to them each day, excluding daily routines such as “had breakfast.” For each event, they recorded whether they had posted the event on social media. And they rated the event’s personal importance and emotional intensity on five-point scales. At the end of the week and a week later, the students took surprise quizzes on how many events they could recall.

The researchers found that the online status of each event significantly predicted the likelihood of it being recalled at the end of both the first and second weeks. This was true even when they controlled for the personal importance and emotional intensity of the events. In other words, events posted online were more likely than those not posted online to be remembered over time, regardless of the characteristics of the events.

The research sheds new light on memory theories and have important implications for the construction of “the autobiographical self” in the digital age, the authors said. “This work is the first step toward a better understanding of the autobiographical self in the internet era where the virtual externalization of personal memories has become commonplace,” the study said.

The research, “Externalizing the autobiographical self: sharing personal memories online facilitated memory retention,” appeared Aug. 17 in the journal Memory.

No more punctures? Michelin’s stunning 3D-printed tyres could make blowouts a thing of the past

Michelin has 3D printed an airless tyre, called Vision, out of biodegradable materials. And, according to to the company, it is both a wheel and airless tire in one.

Although this proof-of-concept model will not reach cars anytime soon, it might become a part of everyday driving in the future. Apart from being a positive environmental step, the tyre will do away with a few major problems that car owners face like deflation, over inflation, punctures, and blowouts. Michelin has made this tyre as part of their “Sustainable Mobility” platform.

Vision is made of natural rubber polymers that are plant based as opposed to petroleum based like they are now. The company showed tyres based on orange zest, Engadget reported. Michelin’s executive vice president of global R&D Terry Gettys also pointed out molasses as a natural material that could go into tyre production.

Michelin’s executive vice president of global R&D Terry Gettys also pointed out molasses as a natural material that could go into tyre production.

While the technology is being researched, Gettys said that traditional methods of production cannot be replaced right away and that biodegradable components will be “progressively introduced”.

Apart from not needing regular inflation, Vision does not require rims and wheels to attach to a vehicle as the tyre’s structure is sturdy enough to hold up a car during movement, while at the same time be pliable enough to absorb bumps on roads. It will be affixed on the axle of a car through a hub connection.

Vision will reportedly have the capacity to be retreaded. Michelin claims that treads can even be swapped out based on the location or kind of road expected like when needing to change to snow and ice safe treads before winter. This is expected to happen in stalls or outlets in places like fuel stations.

Michelin’s tyre also looks like it is from the future in the way it is constructed with a complex mesh like pattern with treads on the outer rim. “The look of our concept Vision is intended to be attractive,” Gettys said.

Tyres in the future are also likely to have sensors for simplified fleet management and diagnostics.

Michelin has said that Vision is at least 5 to 10 years away from hitting the market for use by consumers.
